The old formula was for the media to have half the SEC ranked in the preseason top 15 in order to artificially inflate the SOS for every team in the SEC.

Sure, South Carolina ended the season 4-8, but their early #6 ranking sure looks like a quality win for some opposing teams at the end of the season. Let’s rank SC in the preseason top 10 next season and do it all again.

Meanwhile, I turn on college game day and see everyone wax poetic about the superiority of the SEC only for the camera to pan over to some portly Bubba in an Arkansas PFG fishing shirt and stupid visor chanting, “SEC! SEC! SEC!”
