I don't have a hard on for EV's I'm just so tired of seeing so many OT baw's screaming they will never own an EV and talking about how terrible they are when they have never owned, driving, tested one. They sound like all the people who were scared of Elevators when they first came out.

The only way it will become profitable is if there is no ICE option to buy and we have no choice

That ford F150 lightning EV is ugly, cheap looking and it costs $100K+

Horrible management, or playing the long game?
In the first couple of years, Toyota lost nearly $10,000 on each Prius sold ( LINK).
This was their entry into the "electrified vehicle" segment. In 2022, 24% of Toyota's total sales volume was from "electrified vehicles" (just over half a million vehicles). LINK

The first time I have to stop for 45 minutes to an hour to recharge a battery after driving 400 miles I’m going to lose my mind.
45 minutes to an hour will only get you about 150-200 miles back worth of charge, depending on the vehicle

I am curious if a compressed air generator charging the batteries would produce enough to extend the range of electric vehicles.
Are you suggesting compressing air, which then gets released gradually to spin a turbine driving a generator? That would be extremely inefficient.

Gotta love calling the cost it takes to build up infrastructure and working through early development snafus a loss.
Yes, building battery factories, retooling production plants, and building new kinds of vehicles from scratch is expensive.

Not just compressing air...but pressurizing liquid and air (not for vehicles...but for off the grid, home energy storage)...maybe.
The Ground Level Integrated Diverse Energy Storage project showed that a pressurized system was around 80% efficient.

You failed Thermodynamics 101.

I will own an EV when it makes economic sense to own one. Additionally it has to make sense for my driving needs. Right now current EV'S do not meet either requirement.

I wonder if this will work:

The nation's first stretch of road to wirelessly charge electric vehicles while they're in motion will begin testing next year in Detroit.
Why it matters: "Electrified" roadways, which have wireless charging infrastructure under the asphalt, could keep EVs operating around the clock, with unlimited range — a big deal for transit buses, delivery vans, long-haul trucks and even future robotaxis.
In-road charging could also help pave the way for more widespread EV adoption by relieving consumers of the need to stop and plug in their cars.

I remember during the Obama administration several companies tried to drop the full-size truck because "save the earth", bad move removing what the consumer wants and needs.

Nah shel told me evs are totally the way and that the price of the vehicle doesn’t matter.

Why do you have such a hard on for EVs? It's not a competition in here, just a discussion on Ford taking a loss on EVs. EVs don't yet meet the needs of most people, for purpose and cost. Don't get your panties in a mess over that statement, it doesn't mean everyone is anti EV.
The ev folks are really insecure.

This is a reasonable comment on this topic. Our household has a Tesla and a Ford F150. The Tesla is perfect for the majority of city driving that we do. The F150 is perfect for the infrequent long road trips we do. What all these OT baws refuse to understand is that for the vast majority of the population EV's are perfectly fine and range anxiety is not really an issue for 99% of the driving they do. But then they'd have to find something else the Govt. is doing to cry about
Go drive around new or leans and come back and tell me this.

Where does the electricity come from?

EV acceleration would be good for outrunning 4 wheeler gangs. Maybe Tesla could come out with a Sentry Mode that protects the car at stop lights. Also, no need to worry about getting car jacked at a gas station. Seems pretty ideal really.
