Of course, but an arbitrary time of 8am
shite. Even 8 am isn’t good enough for some people these days.

Lots of companies are going to a flexible workspace environment now to attract top talent in younger generations. You basically have to do what Facebook and Google do to compete if you want to hire the best. My company has always had a policy in place but just recently advertised it a lot to make people aware that they can work from home more or adjust hours as long as the core 9-3 hours are being worked for meeting purposes. My boss left at 11 last week to take his kids to the movies and then worked late that evening. I do 7-4 but work from home on Fridays more and check in at night to catch up on emails. I’ve worked from the beach before without using vacation.
This younger generation of engineers want the world so we are having to give it to them to keep them around.

Stop being lazy and find a productive use of the extra time that you are required to be at work. He’s your boss and you’re the underling for a reason. Shape up or get canned.

Just came in to say I recently scored the elusive 4-10s job and am loving every bit of it. Weekend starts in 4 hours.

See and this is where the Old Guy BS comes in. This isn't true at all. This is what the market is asking for, and you know why? Because the old guys don't want to pay what they should be paying. Up that salary by 20%+ and magically guess what happens? You all of a sudden have good employees that will also work when you want them to work.
Underpay and yeah, employers have to do things like this.
Or simply meet in the middle and decide that some benefits are cheaper and better for everyone like a more lax work day for less pay.

This thread is making me sick to my stomach thinking about having to be chained to a desk 8 to 5 ever again.
Granted, we work crazy long hours (and a lot of weekends) and travel a ton, but whether I get in at 8 AM or 1 PM doesn't really matter as long as we are there for the client.

Shape up or ship out.
Or is it ship up or shape out?

Is he a lazy douche bag that wears a men’s warehouse suit, drives Toyota Prius, and acts like he working while on Tigerdroppings?

This.
Working from home and traveling to clients is where it’s at... I’ve thought about how much it would take to get me to have to go to an office every day , or have set, non-flexible hours.. and, even if they doubled my pay (and i do pretty well as it is)- i’d have to think long and hard about it.. now if they tripled or quadrupled my pay, (including commissions and bonuses) i’d probably do it , but only because i could suck it up for 5 yrs and then could retire nicely.

It is fantastic. If I'm not on the client site, I could be working from the moon for my company cares. Places from which I will work this summer: Las Vegas, Austin, LA, Michigan wilderness, etc.
I will say that companies and industries that have a large volume of remote work need to have people that are driven and motivated for it to work well, at least in my experience. It also obviously doesn't work in companies where you are physically producing shite.

I just wanted to check in and let my boss know I am in the office before 8.
I even made the coffee, Mike.
