I know that it's still around but it has been pretty much turned into a cleaner version of Chili's.

I am talking about the O.G. wood and brass, the Tiffany lampshades, the canoes and tubas on the wall thing where it was a bar first, restaurant second type thing with trivia, cigar smoking, fun cocktails and a dynamite happy hour where you could easily make new friends.

They used to be pretty dope. Now the locations left really miss the mark and there doesn't seem to be anything to fill the void of franchised bar. Go on a business trip BITD and TGI Fridays was always on fire. It was like McDonalds for fun and drinks.

Has anything else stepped up to the plate? Now I go on a trip, I'm fumbling around on yelp for local bars that might be TGI Friday's like but 9/10 times they are lame.

Really jonesing for the old TGI Friday's experience.

Weird. I never really experienced it during its "glory days". However, when I was younger, Chili's actually wasn't a bad place for what it was.

I have never once wished a bar was as good as TGIFridays. That thought has never crossed my mind.

Friday's used to be an OK place to go to as a bar(read pickup women,) and believe it or not, so was Bennigan's at one time

I used to eat the crap out of their frozen wings in college. You can still find them in the grocery store.

I stopped going to my local one after management relaxed the flair policies. If you're not covered in buttons when you bring me my whiskey ribeye, then go frick yourself

They used to have a pretty solid french dip sandwich and it was the first place that I ever had potato skins. I feel like they regressed in the direction of Applebees and their food basically became what you could find in the freezer section of Sam's. You don't come back from that.

Went to one for the first time in a long time over Christmas and it was HORRIBLE. And I'm not difficult to please when it comes to most restaurants. I like Applebee's, Chilis, whatever.

But it'll be a long time before I darken the door of another TGIFs.

I didn't read until pretty recently that it started out as a real pickup bar in New York back in the 60's. Wikipedia has some of the story.

The TGIF I knew was basically Bennigan's or Chili's. The only time I ever went to one as a bar was in McAllen, TX back in the 90's when that was the only "bar" anyone in our wedding group could think of in that town.
