Seeing as how all the major ISPs are cutting deals to add Netflix to their packages, I'm gonna say no.

And people would drop At&T and switch to a competitor.

Long term, what is being thrown around as what the ISPs will do, would be a terrible business model for them.

There just aren't that many competitors.

Netflix will go almost completely original programming at some point.

Disney is already pulling their content and with them buying Fox, you can kiss the Fox content goodbye as well.

But yes... This has the potential to kill any streaming service the ISPs do not own and run themselves.

The fact the Comcast can be allowed to own NBC/Universal or AT&T can own DirectTV is mind boggling to me.

Nothing as dramatic as that. The changes will be a slow creep.

Netflix will have to some up with something I think....or they reduce their price at some point.

I guarantee you that the Disney streaming service (whatever that becomes) will be available on every single service provider....guaranteed.

The way it went down last time, and how I suspect we'll see it again, is more like a mafia protection money scam than straight up "they're slow, we're fast, use us.". Shakedown money spends just as easily as customer money and is less likely to piss off consumers enough for the FTC to care. Last time they throttled, or rather refused to upgrade their connections with the networks NetFlix was using to connect to Comcast/Cox/etc., in order to get NetFlix to pay them, which they did.

I really don't think this will lead to the death of competing services like people fear, it just let's the established ISPs impose a tax that is hidden from consumers on everything they consume. It also won't lead to the death of innovation on the Internet either. A YouTube star isn't going to have to pay AT&T, Google will and they'll just take that out of the revenue they share with YouTube stars. Someone using Amazon Web Services as the back end for their app won't have to cut a deal with ISPs, Amazon will, and the ISP tax will just be added to the rates AWS charges.

Yep.

I can definitely see the argument for net neutrality, but I get the feeling alot of people don't understand how competition works.
