re: Homebrewing Thread: Volume II

Anyone ever dry hopped a kolsch? I have like an Oz of Cascade i want to get rid of. Might as well, right? Won't taste like a classic kolsch, but its not going to be so overpowering that it tastes off. At least that's what im thinking. Maybe just give it a tiny little citrus aroma.

Just dry hopped my pale ale with some old Mosaic in the freezer. I assume despite being a few years old, vacuum sealed hops will still hold up. Never been opened.

Also added strawberries to my saison. Hopefully this yeast can dry it out, im worried about it ending up too sweet.

Also started a starter for my kolsch. Hoping to have 3 beers on tap for most of the spring and summer.

I brewed once in the lat 24 months, and for some reason got the itch again. I brewed 2 beers this last weekend, a 2.5 gal strawberry saison and a 5 gal pale ale... I am definitely opting for ease over quality as I get back into it lol. Measurements were very vague and I relied on some buddies to help me. My 5 gal only ended up being like 3.5 gal in the fermenter so idk wtf happened there. Didn't measure any gravities either lol. Just winging it.... I really enjoyed brewing, I just think I was getting stressed out planning it all out ahead. With 2 young kids now I do not feel like breaking out the excel spreadsheets when they go to bed lol.

I just bought a mill and started bulk ordering grains online... Not ideal but there have been some positives in having so many grains on hand.
For a fraction of the cost they would have paid previously. Now they cant go vertical on the pad since there are hotel rooms lining the entire surround. Its at best a single floor retail building now. Was worth way more when it affected the entire design and layout of the hotel.

Thats surprising to me. Never heard anyone complain about it. I can get behind complaining about price or the fact that it tries to be overly instagramable. Both spaces are so well done though to take advantage of a pretty weather day. The food quality is much higher than most of the other places in Hammond. Maybe the best burger ive ever had at One Thirteen. Service is always good to, manager constantly checking in on us.

One Thirteen and Lighthouse are both really good, especially if the weather is nice.

I like Benteaux but be prepared to smell like the restaurant for the rest of the day.

ETA: Le Saigon is really solid as well.

Not looking to do BBQ. My niche is definitely house pickles, charcuterie, boudin and sausages. But can’t stress enough, I want to stay away from a BBQ joint type place. I’m not well versed and the cost is going to continue to climb. Really want to limit the use of “beef” as much as I can for cost purposes

I've always thought a sausage place would kill it here. Specifically in south Baton Rouge. Serve beer with house made sausages, housemate rolls, etc. Look at Thirsty Pig in Portland, ME as what im envisioning... Have a good setup with TVs too. South BR legitimately has no good places to watch a game that isn't a chain like BWW.

Just contact me to find you a spot lol. Not a broker. There are just a number of locations in BR that will always fail and have always failed despite good concepts going in. Im sure they will be pitched to you.
Chairbacks between the 20s in the west uppers are great seats.

The smoke from practice on the guy was that he was the next big thing. Yet he couldn't get on the field before Nic Anderson, Chris Hilton, or Destyn Hill. So idk how to feel about this

saying this with full confidence tells me you didnt look at their schedule next year

Agree. The pitches are completely different.

You can go to Tech, go undefeated in a schedule fit for noon on ESPN2 or you can play in a bunch of prime time ABC games that you may win or lose.
If the season goes as we hope, could be just the 3rd or 4th best atmosphere of the season.
On a crucial 3rd down he came on a free rush at the QB. I've seen that play 100 times, and it feels like 90 of those times they whiff and the QB no longer has any pressure and easily converts.

It was so refreshing to see him throttle down and contain, forcing an incomplete on rather than go for the blow up hit
Sharp has been worthless all year. The dumb play he had last yeat against us while playing for Oklahoma should have been all we needed to not consider him. He is a TE who just turns the ball over, makes dumb plays, cant block, and isn't a game changing receiver. He adds no value to the team. Idk how much hes being paid but its too much.

The guys playing have had a ton of run all year outside of Singleton and Gilbert. And Gilbert started all last year.

Campus is unique. Its not the usual nice brick buildings you see around the southeast, it has the charm of live oaks and spanish architecture. I'd walk around the quad, down the hill to Mike's habitat, back up Dalrymple to go to The Chimes. Get some cheese fries and/or the spinach and artichoke dip, a local beer, and the BBQ shrimp poboy.

Evening id consider going downtown to see the river, the old state capitol, or mahbe even a Zydeco game if they are playing. Id have dinner at Elsies on Govt St. You could also drive down Perkins from City Park to Parrains if you want to see more of the city. That area is cool, the Garden District that turns into the Perkins Overpass.

Depends what your kids are into, but if you have a few hours to kill and want to be outside you can either walk the LSU lakes or play 9 holes at City Park. Its a classic muni golf course, very cheap and the guys that run it are super chill. Its got some pretty rich history though and hole #4 is a really cool view of the lakes. Can basically play the whole course with a driver, wedge, and putter.
All of these things mentioned, but in summary:

- They have 2 dominant DEs, better than LSUs. They get pressure while maintaining pass rusher lanes and not allowing Reed to escape as often.

- LSU plays alot of man coverage given the strength at corner. Leads itself to long runs when we lose contain

- Reed did get loose a decent amount in the 1st half against them. They just sacked him a bunch, which LSU did not. Primarily due to the first point.

- 30mph winds are a QB and kickers worst nightmare, so that certainly helped the defenses.

- Craver was limited
Alot of orange in the lower bowl

If only Hilton had one more year. Next year was definitely gonna be the year he put it all together.
