My wife (37 & no pics) went to her primary care doctor last week and she discussed the possibility of her having ADHD. He made her take some BS questionnaire and then told her she made need a script of Adderall. I’m a very supportive husband in most of the decisions she makes but I cannot in good conscience support her taking a highly addictive schedule 2 medication. I think this medication is very mush overprescribed and from my research the dangers outweigh the benefits. Am I overreacting here or should I stand firm on this topic?

I am not a doctor but I think adderall is overprescribed and I have seen doctors say that as well, 60 Minutes TV show for example. Others say it is a miracle drug and take it if you are told to. Who knows?

We prob all have a bit of ADHD but you can def cope with it without the use of medication. In what ways is she ADHD?

If you really feel your judgement is better than the prescribing physician then get a second opinion and go from there.

Hope this helps.

Psychiatrist should be the one making that diagnosis, not her PCP.

Stimulants are great for people that need them but they need monitoring more than a primary doctor is going to do.

Stand by. Will cause her to lose a bunch of weight, increase energy levels, since it’s basically legalized meth. Next thing you know, you will be Jody’d.

I wish I would have never started taking Vyvance
Is she taking because she really & truly needs it or is she wanting it to lose weight?
Eventually it stops curbing your appetite, if that’s what’s she looking to get out of it she really needs to rethink it

My friend got on it at 35. Went crazy. He got a promotion at his job and just wanted to be on the ball. Ended up losing his job and getting checked into the mental hospital a couple of times.

Now that is also around an age men start developing problems. But he was abusing it, its legal speed.

Ask her how she feels about PIIHB.

Report back with the results and we’ll go from there.

Thanks.

I’m a little older than her. I was prescribed it for 8 years. Horrible, almost ruined my life.

If that was her desire I imagine she would be looking for Ozempic, Mounjaro, et al as long as she can afford it.

Vyvanse is a pro drug. It has to be activated by the body before it does anything. Side effects are less harsh than Adderall

Primary care doctors shouldn’t be prescribing that to begin with.

Personally, I fricking hated addy and vyvanse. shite made me absolutely miserable, didn’t work nearly as long as it should have, and made my fingers and toes cold.

I quit years ago and haven’t looked back.

You think all the little shite heads running around on Adderall or Focalin are seeing psychiatrists?
Your PCP literally hands you a questionnaire, asks about behavior at home/work. Depending on your score, congrats on your new Adderall prescription!
