I was 29 and diagnosed with ADHD. Dr gave me Vyvanse and it made me crazy AF. I would have killed someone had I stayed on it because it made me very aggressive.

After that, he tried to get me to take Adderall and I just said I can figure out life without drugs.

I take a few natural supplements that help. The hardest part of ADHD for me initially was that it can lead to bouts of depression. I take DHEA which helps a ton and is a natural supplement your body already produces.

I refuse to get addicted to synthetic meth to fix a "problem" that there are alternatives to dealing with.

My wife (37 & no pics) went to her primary care doctor last week and she discussed the possibility of her having ADHD. He made her take some BS questionnaire and then told her she made need a script of Adderall. I’m a very supportive husband in most of the decisions she makes but I cannot in good conscience support her taking a highly addictive schedule 2 medication. I think this medication is very mush overprescribed and from my research the dangers outweigh the benefits. Am I overreacting here or should I stand firm on this topic?

why not let her take it and see if it actually helps here instead of being a controlling douche?

Because 75% of the OT thinks it’s “trashy”.

My son is on Vyvanse. I did not want him to be on anything like that, and everyone will have their opinion about what you should do instead and how I’m not raising my child right. Plenty of “oh he just needs a good arse whipping” from people. Well other people aren’t there every day to experience this. It was basically either put him on medication or he would have to be in different classes in school.

I know what I went through when I was younger, and he is a lot like me, but more intense.

My son should be on it, but we’re afraid it will negatively effect other things in his life. Holy shite though, his school work would improve tremendously.

yea i have 1 on it, he needed it. he is straight A student and gifted IQ wise, he needed it,

the ot is full of poor fat fricks who preach going into the trades, they dont know shite. everyone on here likes to say this or that....yet go and bitch about the price of everything.

every time someone post a picture in the BMI threads, to prove they arent obese...they are obese.

fcuk the OTs opinions. the OP should talk to his wife, let her know his concerns(if they are real) and have her talk to the doctor about them. If SHE makes the decision to try the drug, support her. if it causes issues, change the medicine or get off completely.

i have adhd, have my whole life, at 40 i have learned to deal with it without medicine and have never taken it. It allows me to get a shite ton of work done when i do focus, like a weeks worth in less than a day....but also i have times where i get obsessed with other things and go do rabbit holes and before i know it, day is over. other days i cant sit still and end up walking around at job sites all day.

but the op needs to let his wife make the decision. she is a grown arse women, not some little kid he can control.

It’s not highly addictive

Technically, this is correct. Years ago, I abused it and ended up with a front row seat at a treatment center for 120 days. Physically, it's not addictive. Mentally, you can't imagine going through the day without any.

If you have the mindset, if one is good then two should be better...stay far away from this drug.

Have a hard time believing here PCP just randomly prescribed out of the blue. I'm in my 40's and just started taking Vyvanse. I have lived with ADHD my whole life but oddly enough it gets worse as you get older not better. I got tired of being all over the place at work so I asked my PCP about help. The process was as follows

Tried Wellbutrin first for 3 months. No effect
Referred me to a psychologist for diagnosis
Diagnosed me with ADHD and Anxiety. But didn't know if the anxiety was causing ADHD symptoms or vice versa
Switched me to Lexipro for 2 months. Anxiety was better still showing ADHD symptoms.

Kept me on Lexapro but prescribed me a low dose of Vyvanse to see effects.

Vyanse has worked wonders with no side effects that anyone in my immediate life can see. Also have gotten compliments on how my attitude and focus has improved.

Also they are strict as hell with the prescriptions now. You can't refill till the day before your are set to take your last pill and they monitor your consumption.

All in all this was a 6 month process to even get to a low dose of Vyvanse. And i have to go in person to my PCP every three months to get monitored and reup my prescription. Everyone saying they hand it out like candy and don't care about the effects are obviously either lying are seeing doctors who don't give a shite.

There’s an enormous difference between the use of vyvanse or adderal when used in conjunction with therapy as compared to when used as a substitute. Neither drug is going to treat the issue and unless you treat the issue you’re never going to see improvement, you’re only going to mask how it’s manifesting itself.

It’s not about letting or not letting your wife take adderal, it’s about supporting her in a manner that helps her achieve her best self.

Maybe adderal or vyvanse may help, but not on it’s own.

This is true also. My psychologist gave me mental exercises to do that I still use daily that help. It wasn't just a here take the pill and go away type thing.

If I had taken Adderall in college I would of had a much better GPA and would have qualified to apply at the much better companies. Instead I would had to compete against other college grads at the shittier companies.

Next time you go to purchase a gun you will be put on the delay list. I never had an issue until the Dr prescribed me Vyvanse. Depression drugs also seem to lead to being delayed.

This has been the complete opposite for the ole lady. She gets off of work, eats shitty junk food and crashes out like a slob now. It frickin sucks. Pretty much gonna be the end of the relationship. frick taking those meds if you truly don’t need it.

If the obstacle or deterrent to someone seeking mental health is a possible delay on their ability to purchase a gun then maybe a priority realignment is a good idea as well (which of course is a process in therapy)

Not Adderall related...but prescription related...

A month ago my pharmacy ran out of Klonopin for a week. I'd been taking 2mg of this stuff for nearly 15 years for sleep. They couldn't fill it for a week, and I was given Xanax to supplement the Klonopin. The withdrawals were absolutely horrible.

I decided that when my prescription was ready, that I'd begin tapering off every two weeks and get off of it completely. After a month of tapering, I'm now at 1mg. It's been a pretty crappy ride, but I'm glad I'm doing it.

Point Being: In a time where there seems to be shortages/ back orders, I would be HIGHLY skeptical taking something that can make you chemically dependent. It's scary knowing that I was/ am reliant on big pharma to give me my fix. And this was all prescribed/ "monitored" by my PCP.

I’m 39 and have been on adderall for about 8 years now. I take it like it is prescribed and it has greatly helped my ADHD. I take 25mg XR once a day. No major side effect except for the blah feeling if I don’t take it for a couple of days. Matter of fact, I haven’t taken it since Friday due to my prescription being on order. Never had the feeling that I must have it right now or anything like that. Everyone handles the medication differently. Just take it like it is prescribed and be open on how it is affecting to your doctor. The doctor can adjust the dosage or help find a medicine that works.
