Alot of stories and a book or two out there that folk hero Sheriff Buford Pusser of "Walking Tall" fame was as crooked as the state line mobsters he was "cleaning up".

In the predawn hours one 1967 morning his wife Pauline inexplicably accompanied him on a call, driving into what is believed to have been an ambush resulting in her death and Buford's wounding. No charges were ever filed in the killing.

Now 56 years later they have exhumed Pauline's body for autopsy as a result of a new tip. This new article hints that Buford may have been involved. Old research I've read hinted the same, citing he was having at least one extramarital affair at the time. Any of you from up in that area in those days have any thoughts?

I don't understand what you can glean from a body that has been dead that long. I get DNA from bones probably, but what else?

You either die a hero, or live long enough to then die and become the villain

That’s very interesting. I was born, raised and still live in the area. They filmed some chase scenes near my house when I was a boy and I recognize where most things were filmed around here. His daughter died not too long ago. I wonder if she left some “secrets” in her will or something?

Yeah that's because they have been basically preserved due to conditions. I don't think that happens in a regular old burial, but maybe I'm wrong.

Exactly. Looking for exit vs. entry wounds that I think would corroborate or refute Buford's account.

She's dead, he's dead, unlikely anyone alive who was involved. Seems like a waste of time and taxpayer's money to have the TBI investigating this.

If there was shenanigans in her death then the shooters f'd up.
He was hurt pretty bad and left with permanent facial deformities.

What would be in the coffin after 56 years? Just bones at that point?

And blew half his own face off just to make it believable?

For real. I’m really failing to see the point in wasting taxpayer resources here.

Of course he was shot in the face twice (with a .30 caliber) and could have died in that encounter.
