Another thread where someone, probably recently lost weight, is virtue or lifestyle signaling.

Exercise is over valued. Diet is the most important metric for health.

Only if you’re switching hands.

Working out should only be used as training to do a sport...working out just to work out is insane. Play tennis, go climbing, paddle something, pedal something, ski...

I've actually found it pretty soothing.

I worked in a cubicle for over 8 years with absolutely 0 regular exercise in my daily life. I never got fat, but I was really starting to feel the lack of activity.

I've worked out "just to work out" for a long time now and I've felt great and do better at work.

Right until you develop osteoporosis from not strengthening your bones from weight bearing exercises

If we're talking about strictly fighting obesity, then exercise is worthless without a dietary change since it doesn't burn as many calories as people think. A solid 30 minute workout can be offset with one small bag of potato chips or one coffee from Starbucks. The food we're all exposed to is so calorie dense today. Just eating a tiny bit of candy, chips, snacks can add a ton of calories to your daily total.

What's that old bodybuilding saying? "Abs are made in the kitchen not the gym." That's absolutely right.

Yes exercise is good for the cardiovascular system, but I would say diet is more important. Exercising when fat does nothing unless you are also cutting your diet. Losing the fat is more important to your health than the exercise itself.

Think how cool it’d be if you were honing a skill you could go use on a vacation.

- Boredom.
- Lower threshold of pain. (I've known guys who could rip a deep-rooted wart out of their hand with a pair of pliers, and not wince. I also know guys who quit exercising as soon as they realized there was any level of pain involved.)
- Time constraints. (For some people, an hour or half hour out of each day is a real hassle.)

Remember the spin class nuts? They seem almost normal compared to the Crossfit cultists.
