I think it boils down to a resentment from those of the Christian faith over the death of Jesus and the historical role of Jewish people in the banking industry because they were not restricted in their faith from charging interest.

Well what about the couple thousand years before the birth of Christ?

Maintaining an insular community within a larger society and then thriving in that larger society is a recipe for resentment.
