I love the suggestions from people who propose every generation merge the husband's and wife's last names with a hyphen. First generation: two part hyphen ; second generation: four part hyphen ; third generation: eight part hyphenated name....
You ultimately have to choose a single last name for any sort of heredity to be passed on to the next generation.

This should only be allowed legally if the father agrees to it or relinquishes rights because there are women out there that will use this against their spouse when relationships go sour, trying to remove a father from their child's life.
If the courts are going to side in things like custody battles almost carte blanche with the mothers, then this aspect needs to be protected to give the fathers some rights in those situations.

That's not how it works. Only use the main last name on both sides of the family. This isn't new.

There's only one case where i would let the kids take the wife's last name and that's if we were an interracial couple and the kids strongly favored her.
Seeing an asian Dwayne Thibodaux would shock some people.

It shows the blend of that family unit, but still maintains an easy to follow family line.
Biologically, it is interesting as all male ancestors share the same Y chromosome.

I saw this coming back in the 80's when the author of "Oh! Pascal!" purposefully used "she" instead of "he" for the gender neutral pronoun.

There were some Filipino Fontenot kids in my high school. Their dad was in the Air Force, and met their mom while abroad.
