That's OK. I just learned it a couple of weeks ago.

I did not think the military allowed that back then.

I added a space. He had it right, I just wanted to make a dad joke of it.

You had me for a second. I'm never confident with my spelling or grammar.

My brother's wife didn't take his last name, yet their child has his last name. He wasn't made aware of her not taking his last name until very close to the wedding, and he's resented it ever since.

In his eyes, she's not "buying in" on their marriage, or partnership. It's caused him to not be all in emotionally which has caused a strain on their marriage.

What's her reasoning?

I know several women that have not taken their husband's last name, almost always for professional reasons.

In part because she's an only child, and didn't want the family name to die. Mostly, it's due to her inability to concede to anything.

But you said their kids have the man's last name.

If the kids are still taking his name... then I have some bad news for her. Unless she has cousins or something still carrying the name on.

So, it's really a 'just because' and yeah that would piss me off too.

Better than a hyphenated name, those things really piss me off.

Growing up I was friends with two brothers with different last names for this reason, they had the same parents. My friend was always really proud of the fact that he's carrying on a family name that dates back several centuries.

plenty of posts in this thread come across as caring far too much about it.

No, this is not the case. In the grand scheme of things, majority on here posting in this thread do not care. But, this is a message board. And people come on here to kill time or discuss varying topics for whatever reason they want.

Anyone here that starts saying, "Clearly you care too much about this", is simply diverting from debating another they disagree with, and generally, don't have an answer. Just because someone may disagree with another on any topic doesn't mean "they care too much" about the subject. It simply means, this is a message board, and they are utilizing it for it's intended purposes.

I guarantee you if Donald Trump only had daughters he would have them doing the same thing this "pussy" is doing.

He wouldn't let the Trump name die just because of some tradition.

I have a brother but he's 35 and unmarried and if he does get married, I don't think he will ever have kids. My dad only had one brother and he had two daughters so most likely, my dad's family name will end.

That's why I gave my daughter my maiden name as her middle name. And she plans to pass it along to one of her children one day. It's a way to keep that family name alive, even if it's not as a surname.

There was never any decision to be made for me about taking my husband's last name but my family wasn't historically important or fancy or famous or anything. If it were, it may have been a consideration.

I mean, if you guys that are so mad about this had gotten lucky and bagged Ivanka Trump and she and her father said they wanted you to take the Trump name instead of keeping your own, what would you have done?

You seriously going to tell me you would turn down fine arse Ivanka, the cache of the Trump name, and all that money just because taking her name would be "pussy"?

Nah, y'all would have happily gone to the Social Security office and changed your name to Trump.

So they let the son keep the mom's name to keep her family name alive. Seems fine to me.

Shut up. If it was that important to her family, they would've kept trying until they had a boy.

"Why I let my wife peg me with a strap on"

So, did you and the others like you watch "Idiocracy" and consciously decide to emulate that society, or has it just come naturally to you guys?
