My wife wanted to do the two name hyphenated thing. I told her no way. She was taking my last name or we were not getting married. You boys need to put your foot down and quit being a wuss

yes, because taking the man's last name, like wearing a wedding ring, has kep soo many people from cheating on thier spouse.

I should have said her birth name. She is an only child. She tried to have a discussion of the child not taking my brothers name - he squashed that real quick.

I and my two kids took my wifes last name. It was purely functional/utilitarian. Her last name is easier to spell and easier to pronounce. No one ever fricks up her last name and its a relief not to have to spell-out my last name every, single, time.
One of my friends knows a guy who did that as a middle finger to his father (who abandoned the family when he was little).

Wife is taking my name. But if she insisted on hyphenating, hers would go first. Not a bitch, just a grammar-nazi.

One of my classmates changed his last name to his mother's maiden name when his father was arrested for domestic abuse and they had to move out of state after the restraining order.
If my wife and I ever had children, we'd just do what her family does and have her maiden name be one of their middle names.

I'n not sure if this is him, but it's exactly what I'd have guess he looked like, so I'm assuming it is.

My son has 4 names. His first 3 Is his grandfathers full name (my FIL), and his last name is mine.
Pretty much the same situation, FIL is only boy so we wanted his name to stay alive.
But, he is my son so there is no way he wouldn't have my last name.

Facts:
Wife takes last name - divorce decreases
Wife hyphenates last name - divorce increases
Wife refuses to take last name (and not because of celebrity fame) - basically a guaranteed divorce.
When bucking the social norms is more important than committing to a lifetime relationship.
well, it is obvious what happens next.
