If the mother and father are both involved in the child's life, I believe a fist fight between the two should determine whose last name is given to the child. My wife forfeited, so my son has my last name.

My ex, totally different situation, but my ex actually approached me about giving my 2 daughters her new husband's last name. I told her to gtfo and never ask me that again.
