re: Why is so hard for people to merge onto an interstate?

No, frick that. It's driving. There are rules. The rules exist so that everyone knows what everyone else is doing if everyone is doing it right. There's no "being nice". Drive how you're supposed to, and we'll all get where we're going.
Baton Rouge drivers fricking love driving like assholes except when they can "be nice" and stop to let someone into traffic and frick things up more. That same motherfricker, though, will come up to the very next red light he gets to and stop right in front of someone trying to exit a driveway onto the road instead of stopping short of the driveway so as not to block it like you're supposed to do, providing an opportunity for the other driver to enter traffic without disrupting it. Then, when the light turns green and motherfricker A clears the driveway, jackass B three or four cars behind the driveway will "be nice" and let that guy out, starting the cycle over again.

I go the speed of traffic, whatever that speed may be. It’s the safest way to travel.
If you want to merge into that traffic, you must do so, at the speed the traffic you’re attempting to merge into is going.
I leave plenty of room in front of me for a reason. So you can merge. But do so, at the speed traffic is flowing. I shouldn’t have to get off of cruise control because you refuse to speed the frick up.

My MIL shits a brick when I merge into traffic. I speed up quickly and go and she is stomping her imaginary brakes in the passenger seat. It makes me chuckle each time. She fears everything about an interstate highway.

I speed up or slow down as needed to merge, or to allow others to merge. The topic is the OP running people off the road who are trying to merge.

Why the frick are you driving your MIL around and not your wife?

The dumbest thing is people who tailgate on an onramp.
Leave some space in front of you and I can fit between you snd the guy in front of you. It's annoying when there are 6-7 cars on the onramp and they're packed together like sardines.

Because people are morons and they give anyone that breathes oxygen a license.

If the speed limit is 75 you better be out of the way or doing 75.
I'll do 80+.
I’m behind a line of a several cars, and I begin to pass on the left. It’ll take like 60 seconds to pass. A Silverado in a hurry comes out of the distance and rides my arse even though I’m clearly passing and will presumably get in the right lane when done.
At this point, I decelerate to get behind the original line of cars.
Because frick you if you ride my arse.

Just typing “I’m a gigantic piece of shite” would have been easier and you still would have gotten your message across

100% because every single fricking person in the south doesn’t want to let anyone merge in... they see it as a personal attack and speed up instead of being any semblance of considerate.

Here in Mississippi it's bad.
If I am driving along in the right lane and a car is coming up the entrance ramp I will generally move over IF I CAN, it's a courtesy. But not mandatory, and should not be expected. If I cannot move over then I maintain my lane and speed. The idiots usually pull up right alongside me and stay there, looking over at me, expecting me to brake and let them in. Then get indignant when I don't. They are welcome to pull ahead of me and merge, or they can fall in behind me. But they are not entitled to the space where I am. If that's what they want they can screw off.
It's the responsibility of the driver entering the highway to safely merge into traffic. This is based on longstanding nautical right-of-way. The car traveling down the lane on the interstate is analogous to the Standing Vessel, and it is to maintain course and speed, while any overtaking or merging vessels are responsible for maneuvering AROUND the Standing Vessel.

People suck. Sorry but you have to get up to the speeds. Not just cruise over going 45.
Also realized people dont know that the person merging from left to rt has the rt of way. So many fricks dont check and try to merge into my lane after i just merged. See this in nola daily.

Gotta be rough for that baw to get to point B nine seconds later than he planned.

Just ran some baw off the road because he was trying to merge at 50 mph. Sorry I’m doing 75, its not my responsibility to slam my brakes to let you on. I suggest everyone to stay in the right lane near on ramps to teach some lessons. If you get over, they the easy way out and then end up fricking traffic during rush hour
If I see someone coming from the ramp and the left lane is clear I will slide over and make it easy for them to merge into traffic.

Merging is hard for people bc people are retarded.
I swear half of Houston shuts down anytime someone merged onto the freeway.

Say baw, if my 250 hit your rear quarter panel when I’m merging and you are going straight, how do you think that is gonna turn out?
