I guess they heard about the Bayou Classic? We can beat around the bush, but, regardless of bathtub grills, the truth shall set you free.

If only there was a series of concerts, a festival if you will, that concentrates a couple hundred artist over two weeks.

If only.

Still haven't seen snyone list some great artists that are bypassing New Orleans.

Which major tours have passed on New Orleans in recent years? The premise of this thread simply doesn’t hold up

We don’t have an amp so the acts that are about that size do typically bypass us, though you’ll see a good number on that tier at jazzfest. We are pretty much on the list for all the big stadium and arena shows.

Also wondering if all these big name acts that skip New Orleans due to crime are also skipping Chicago, San Francisco, and New York.

Unfortunately I'll be in town with my wife and in-laws for Depeche Mode next month

We'll be there as well. And not unfortunately. Will be a great concert as they always are. We'll also enjoy some good food, do some shopping and see a few well known Halloween decorated homes. Went the the Cure and Duran Duran recently. Will catch The Fixx in November at the House of Blues.

I know there’s a back and forth here and I don’t even know, but it is almost weird how both BR and NO were huge venues in the 60s-90s in general, maybe earlier and/or later. Seems like every single tour of any significance would pass through one or both.
Was reading some 70s80s Fleetwood Mac history and noticed they also played in BR in 82.

2 things:

1. Acts that toured small arenas like college basketball arenas or municipal auditoriums in the 60s and 70s now play much larger arenas and stadiums. For example, I think The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin both played Hofheinz Pavilion on the University of Houston campus, which would be unthinkable for anybody that big today.

2. The New Orleans population declined in every census from the 1960s to 2000. It actually grew a little bit in the last census from the previous one.

Okay yeah. Jazz Fest began 1970.
Not sure how to compare.
But it seems like most of the traffic then was bands coming through, geographically speaking.
Like, stop by on their way through.

Always wonder the same. For me it's metal shows. Guess because it's a predominantly black city with an ear for rap/R&B.

I’ve heard because it’s too far off the beaten path. Not a lot of other places to have a concert around here outside of Houston.

No. Major tours always skipped NOLA.
We rarely got major tour stops.

It used to be because of venues before the Smoothie King Center opened. You had UNO which could handle maybe 12,000 and the Dome. But since then the big artists have not stayed away.

There is so much other stuff to do in New Orleans than to watch a dumb concert. The history in the city itself is enough to last a week while on vacation.

People don’t want to spend their hard earned money on watching a concert when they can walk up and down the beautiful and safe bourbon street from 8:00am until 3:00 in the morning

Define major concert tour.

Nola still gets plenty of big acts. Just because your favorites don’t come doesn’t mean it’s true for everyone.
