re: Why does Louisiana allow cell phones in schools

My daughter brings hers with her to school. She can't use it during school or will be taken away. She makes good grades so I have no problem with it. Now if she is caught using it during school she know it will hit the fan at home. I call it parenting.

I'd be pissed about this policy if I was a parent. How do you know what my kid is doing after school for the next three days? They may need it.
Then they shouldn’t have been on it. As a parent you should be glad they are teaching your kid consequences

Why do people still expect students to not carry a cell phone in school?
because the phones are a distraction and disrupt class in the hands of immature adolescents. And adolescents continuously prove how immature they are. Hell, most adults can't prevent their phones from being a distraction.

A state run department holding my property hostage for three days is fundamentally wrong, and parents can parent how they see fit.
Take it for the day as it's against the rule and enforce other punishments, but you can't just keep the $1,000 phone.

Can you explain how this affects you?
My wife teaches and students are constantly fricking with their phones and causing distractions while she is trying to get students ready for state testing. Students are even getting calls from their parents while in class to give them bad news like their cat died or their uncle passed. I think that shite can wait till after class. What good does that do for your kid to know while in school that their pet died. Stupid parents if you ask me.

How else would the teachers communicate with the students to let them know it's all clear to bang in a classroom or closet?

You claim to be an adult and can't see the difference between having it in a backpack and using it. Maybe you are the one that needs ridiculous policies.

My dad bought me a car, doesnt mean I need to drive it while class is going on.

They didn’t when I was in school. Must have changed in the last decade

How can you confiscate their shite for three days?
Ask the district policymakers.

How can you confiscate their shite for three days? We couldn't use ours, but they'd just take it for the rest of the day, and if you kept getting caught you'd just starting getting detentions escalating with every infraction.
Back in the day I thought I was cool with my beeper but they took that shite and gave it back to me 6 months later.

As a teacher I keep them if I see them. He parents are welcome to come pick them up anytime they want. I don’t have problems with parents or phones.

When your bad parenting starts distracting my kids classroom, your kid and their cellphone can get the frick out.

Have we become that inept that we cannot control kids bringing cell phones to school?

How long has Louisiana been ranked 49th in education?

Then tell your kid to stay off of his phone at school. It's not like this policy isn't known to the students and parents beforehand. Your reaction is typical of the "my baby didn't do anything wrong" attitude that most parents have today.

Confiscating it for the remainder of the day is much different than trying to hold it for 3 days at a time.

What's even weirder is that some schools don't have landline phones in the classroom anymore.
I never had a class where a phone was in the classroom. Not in elementary, junior high, high school, or college.

How about we give it back at the end of the day and let little Johnny and his parents know if they bring it again little Johnny will be marked as absent for the day and sent home.
