Confiscating it for the remainder of the day is much different than trying to hold it for 3 days at a time.
It's not complicated, but High C is retarded, only reaffirmed by every post he makes. I'm all for taking it and holding it the rest of the day and include other punishment as well detentions, suspension from athletics, whatever is appropriate, but keeping it three days is asinine.

How about we give it back at the end of the day and let little Johnny and his parents know if they bring it again little Johnny will be marked as absent for the day and sent home.
That dog won't hunt either. How about you just call me if you see him with it again and I'll come up there with my "good" belt?

Private school? Seems pretty dumb for anyone to break federal law, doesn't matter the reason, it is illegal to jam cell phone signals for safety reasons.

Does the building block signal due to the structure?
Or does the school block the signal on purpose? (Which is illegal)

Having them and using them are two different things. Our district has a strict policy on cell phone usage. If I see a student using his phone at school, it is confiscated for three days. The consequence becomes more severe each time. Now, individual teachers have to follow through, or it's not effective. It's a big issue because many parents raise immortal hell if their kid's phone is taken.
As a parent, I'd raise hell if the school tried to take my kid's phone away for 3 days too. I have no problem with the phone being taken away until the end of the school day if she gets caught using it in class...even if I have to go pick it up myself from the school office. Feel free to give her a detention to make her learn a lesson. But school isn't keeping a phone that I pay the bill on for 3 days.

do they actually keep it for 3 days or just make them turn it in during school hours for 3 days?

My child goes to private school, makes good grades and nobody brings a cell phone to school. My statement was hypothetical.

From the way the post was written, they keep it for 72 consecutive hours.

I've already stated that this is a district policy, not my personal policy. I had nothing to do with creating the policy, but it is my job to enforce it. I'm sorry that you can't read.

Part of the problem. We now "get students ready for state testing" instead of teaching them subjects.

I agree but that's a state policy flaw

state run department holding my property hostage for three days is fundamentally wrong,
Not really.
Kind of like how your car gets impounded if you choose to not have insurance coverage.
But your issue seems to be with it being a “state run” school. What about a private school confiscating it for three days? Are you done with that since it’s not “state run?”

are most kids using a school based wifi access or just burning up their parents data?

Until now you were advocating for it with statements such as "they know the policy, follow it." You never made any statement indicating you had any kind of problem with it. Learn to write.

One is a law, the other is an arbitrary policy, pretty big difference.

I still think it would be a ridiculous policy, but as a private entity it is completely different.
