Until now you were advocating for it with statements such as "they know the policy, follow it." You never made any statement indicating you had any kind of problem with it. Learn to write.
Now you're just being obtuse. My personal feelings on the policy are irrelevant.

This is so against the law. I doubt they do this. Huge trouble if they did.
[ You can’t block signals.

It's 2018. Texas allows cell phones in school.

As someone who has to enforce the policy and deals directly with students and parents, your feeling on the policy carry more merit than most. I'm not surprised you don't understand that though.

So on what grounds do they have to confiscate my personal property and refuse to return it for 3 days? This type of policy doesn't seem like it would stand up well to a legal challenge. Just wait til school takes away the phone of a lawyer's kid and refuses to give it back to the parents.
I've already stated that this is a district policy, not my personal policy.

yep. and most of the students have tax subsidized laptops they pretty much do everything on. assignments, homework, research, tests, all of it.

Exactly. Who gives a shite if someone is on their phone anyway as long as no video/music is being played. How is someone sitting next to me that’s on their phone distracting me? If they want to chill on tigerdroppings during class, fine by me. They will be doing it in college anyways.

Are you suggesting that ONE teacher's opinion on a district policy is even going to move the needle? For the record, I don't agree with keeping the kids' phones for three days. There are many more pressing things that I would use my personal feelings on if they carried enough weight to create change. However, the students know that I enforce the policy, which is why I haven't had to take a phone in over two years. See how it works?

China is seeking to crack down on youth use of cell phones and video games. Doing things like keeping them from being to log in after 9:00. In a collective society that can work I guess.

I bet if they made a unilateral policy that students would be hanged if they got caught cheating cheating would decrease too. See how that works?

My 8 year old 2nd grader has Bring Your Device to school day. It's kind of insane. Apparently they use them for math games online and QR codes and stuff.
If you are one of the ones not fortunate enough to have your own device, there are some in the classrooms that the PTA has paid for, for use.

If this is true, a little call to the FCC would stop that policy.
I am pretty sure, it is illegal to jam cell signals with a radio jammer.
Now it is okay, if they built the building with trying to get the worst cell phone reception in mind such as using thick walls and maybe some sort of radio wave reflector within the walls, but there would other issues too.

Yeah, that's not a stretch from what I said at all.

Yeah, I seriously doubt the school admins would keep the phone from the parents if they showed up at school to pick it up. It's practically stealing at that point.
ETA: There is no law "backing" this sort of behavior. Can I create a policy that if you enter my home with a cell phone I can take it from you and keep it for 3 days, as long as I notify you of this policy beforehand?

Sure it is, but it's the same exact flawed logic.

Huh, as a retired law enforcement officer I can tell you this, I enforced the law PERIOD, regardless of my personal feelings about the law.
However, I agree with you on your point about schools confiscating phones for 3 days, bullshite if that would happen to my child's phone. The policy we use as a school board in arkansas is simple. If you use a cell phone in class it's an automatic 2 day suspension. Multiplied x whatever offense that is for the year. I've never seen a student go past a third offense for the year because even the least damn caring parent pays attention to a 6 day suspension.
If kids want to send texts between classes, or even make calls, or surf the net or whatever. we don't care.

I never indicated the contrary, but as a person who has everyday experience your opinion on laws would carry more weight than someone with little to no experience. It's pretty simple.

I'd be pissed about this policy if I was a parent. How do you know what my kid is doing after school for the next three days? They may need it.
Then tell you little shite of a kid to follow the fricking rules or face the consequences.

We can certainly agree on that point.

Screw that, I fully support using my ability of using jury nullification while on jury duty if I know someone is guilty of a stupid law.
