Don’t confuse me with a liberal on this subject, Violent crime is a black issue, 95% of all violent crime in this state is black on black, and when i moved here Mobile was much much safer but I agree 100% .
The best I can tell there is damn near zero communication between black community and white community in Bama, even here in Mobile. In Mississippi and Louisiana until recently they were at least attempts to work together to fix shite, but I don’t think that happpened here.
It’s pretty much a third world country

The state is freaking much more beautiful than Mississippi or Louisiana though, Northern Bama is breathtaking, and three rivers area north of mobile is nice, and you have OB, GS, DI etc.
Outdoor activity is also excellent but specks are down right now big time because Mobile Bay is fresh water half the time. It’s really about same in SA as NF or SM

I'm guessing I'd really like N Alabama, as long as it's hilly. I just don't know anything about it..do they have parks I can ride my mountainbike it, or ATV trails, any trout fishing, whitewater paddling?
Got it all covered except for the trout fishing. But we have great bass and other stuff.
One thing that may surprise some folks is the great mountain bike trails built a few years ago. Right between Oxford and Anniston on Coldwater Mountain, the International Mountain Biking Association a few years ago. It's got numerous trails from beginner to very technical stuff. I e recently got into riding and have been up there a couple times and was really surprised at how good the place is.

And when people make those assumptions about me, for some reason they feel comfortable making bigoted comments about blacks, Hispanics, homosexuals, whatever. It’s even worse when I go to more rural locales.
100% chance you're simply hearing what you want to hear.

That can be said about any Sec team.

Mississippi and Louisiana has some pretty areas, but Alabama has a little bit of northern Arkansas and coastal Florida in it. So yeah, I think the state is underrated from a natural offerings perspective.

Mainly it can be said about fans on message boards and drunk fans at games. I live in Baton Rouge and people here are some of the nicest you will ever meet. Ninety-nine percent of the people here are LSU fans and will jokingly give you a little grief occasionally about not being a LSU fan, but that is about it. My wife and I pull for Bama in addition to our alma maters because our kids went there, and I grew up in Alabama. My neighbors and friends know we pull for Bama and they don't throw piss balloons at us when we walk the dogs or anything. Of course if I based my opinion of Louisiana people based on the hard core LSU fans this message board, it would be a different story. As stated in the quote, this is true about every other SEC team.
I love Alabama as a state because it is where I am from, but I recognize it isn't Colorado when it comes to mountains or the Keys when it comes to the ocean. However, there are some really gorgeous areas and great places to live. No pro sports, but plenty of sports to enjoy. All five minor league teams in Birmingham were playing at some time during April, plus there was the near-by Talladega race and Grand Prix at Barber. I was in town this weekend and on Saturday went to the races at Barber and went to the USFL game that night. It wasn't NFL football, but it was still a lot of fun.

Not too sure about the job market overall. My wife is a physician and I went from working at Tulane to working at Alabama in a similar role so we were limited in our scope within a job search.
The housing is nice and available - our realtor said things usually become really available near the beginning of August. We are paying $300 less a month on our note for something much nicer than we were living in while in Jefferson Parish. Spending less on electric, water, and gas. We are both 5 minutes away from work so I've been contemplating beginning to ride my bike to and from work for some extra exercise to shed some of this weight. Everything here is so condensed but so spread out at the same time. Everything is accessible. It's really weird.
We went to Home Depot today and - swear to God - every single employee we passed in there greeted us and asked if we needed help finding anything. Life is much slower here. It's like I'm living in a dream world.

Trout fishing near Gadsden. I saw this when passing through on my way to a rental cabin in Blue Ridge, Georgia.LINK /
Of course, I think Northern Georgia is vastly superior.

Why does Alabama get so much hate
1. Lots of Baptists who can’t have fun and are judgy doing so
2. A high percentage of cringe rednecks, even by Deep South standards
3. Football fans who will murder you for not being upset enough about the loss

I came from a 3rd world country. Even the worst states like Alabama are generally far better then 3rd world countries.
Unless you’re talking about violence then sure.
But I know they’re a lot of non-southerners that think most of the South like Alabama are actual 3rd world overall. Alabama is FAR from a great state but it’s also underrated in the sense it’s not as extremely bad as many other Americans think it is

No, it's not.

Nah. The entire South is the only 1st world country.
1st world countries - drinks come with ice and most everywhere has AC.
2nd world countries - drinks with no ice (and they bring 3 cubes when asked) and many places with no AC.
3rd world countries - half or more of the population doesn't know if they will eat each day.

The City of Birmingham? Sure. The crime in the suburbs is virtually nonexistent. That’s where I live.

Pay no attention to Raven's pictures. None of those are from Alabama.
Alabama is an ugly, nasty state with nothing to do and Klan Marches every day of the week. It's full of racist bigots and idiots who didn't pass the third grade.
Stay far, far away from that horrible place.
