Every name was ridiculous at one point. And then it became common.

This is the root of the madness. It starts with scripting how they'll ask/be asked someone to homecoming, then prom. The ridiculous engagement routines followed by the obligatory wedding ceremony entrance dance down the aisle and custom vows.

These are the people who need reeducation camps.

you forgot one major step:

social media has popularized narcissism and you're seeing that first generation of narcissists who were effectively living with social media during their entire social lives start to have kids (and compete online)

I used to chime in on these but we named little DP 4 something very unusual. It's a real name, and he's named after someone famous. But his name is unique. I don't think I can make fun of names anymore.

Can’t remember which Malcolm Gladwell book it was but he wrote about how black parents naming kids these crazy names were hurting them later in life when they apply for jobs and people have first reactions when they see a name.

Narcissim, that's why.

It's about the parents, not the kids.

it's a lower class mentality thing

they're rejecting "normal" (middle, upper-middle class) culture

they're also trying to make their child unique (in all the wrong ways)

it's just selfishness from people who don't understand how to live well. it's become so popular it's a cultural thing, too, because it's been so reinforced

You guys put way, way too much thought into this shite.

I think the travel ball jokes and all the crazy spellings are pretty comical, but the fact of the matter is the majority of these names are perfectly normal among their peers, which means they're perfectly normal among the parents of those children too.

I understand no one wants to hire Kash today, but Kash is also 5.
