Because Protestants don’t know scripture.
Recite to them from the Bible when mary says “all generations will call me blessed” and watch their jaw drop.

It’s not a terrible idea

Catholics prioritize unity.
Historically, Protestants have prioritized Truth.
If Luther had not thought Truth to have been compromised he would not have openly protested.

there are literally 3 to 4 passages of the bible read at every mass. today at every Catholic Mass on the planet the first reading was Isaiah 45. Second Psalms 85 and the Gospel was Luke 7: 18b-23.

my son who is a sophomore in high school had his religion mid term exam today. much of it was on the gospels.

no catholic has ever told you that. funny how the people that know the most about catholics are not catholic.

On points 2 and 3, I think the difference comes down to how Catholics and most Protestants define the word "pray". Catholics use the more historic definition, which is "to ask". So anytime you ask someone to pray for you, that request is itself a prayer when defined that way.

Most Protestants define prayer as reverence or worship through communication, owed only to God.

not sure why some people feel it's a dick measuring contest. there are many more similarities between most christian religions than differences. but there is always someone (from either side) that thinks they are more righteous.

we all start at the same place. for those that believe, we will all end up in the same place. sniping at others along the way way is good way to lose your way.

David Koresh could quote the entire New Testament backwards and forwards.

I'd rather hang with Skillet than him.

The early Catholic Church compiled the Bible. They wrote the New Testament and borrowed the Old Testament from Judaism.

It's amazing how Catholics will just completely believe whatever lie they're fed about the "early church."

I do not understand how you read this passage:

quote:

Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be[e] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be[f] loosed in heaven. 19 “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. 20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”

And take from it that Jesus believed we should have an organized religion headed by one man who is infallible and without question. Peter himself rebuked Jesus and then denied him. One of his twelve best friends betrayed him. He spent his entire life rebuking the Pharisees and warning people to be wary of scribes and the traditions of men. And within a century after his death we had groups of men demanding we become slaves to tradition and insisting we must step outside the words of Jesus to be saved.

Jesus told people through his entire ministry “your faith has saved you.”

I also wonder how you deal with Mark 9:38-41

quote:

38 “Teacher,” said John, “we saw someone driving out demons in your name and we told him to stop, because he was not one of us.” 39 “Do not stop him,” Jesus said. “For no one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward.

Or the entirety of John 14

I believe all of us, anyone who has faith in Jesus and keeps his commandments, are the universal and everlasting church of Christ founded as the new covenant for all people in the sacrifice and resurrection of Christ. Catholics tend to tell me I’m wrong and I need to swear allegiance to the man made and run institution in Vatican City or I can’t really be saved.
