If you had to pick one or the other to stay on, standard time would probably be the best, as far as that problem goes.
I can remember back when I was a kid in the early 1970s during the first "energy crisis", they tried doing daylight savings time during the winter to save on lighting and energy. But there were far too many complaints about kids nationwide having to wake up, catch school buses (or ride their bikes, or walk) to school in the dark, and not just in rural areas where buses have further to travel. They dropped that idea pretty quickly.

Florida did this last year too. It would require federal approval. Not gonna happen.
I wish the legislation had been written to put the panhandle in the Eastern time zone instead, like the rest of the state. We'd get an extra hour of daylight in the winter that way. As it stands now, in the fall, the sun sets about 4:50pm.
It's terrible!
