Why do people get so confused when talking about Daylight Savings Time?

Guy on the radio this morning swore up and down that the sun would come up an hour earlier on Monday. Then, people calling in were getting confused as well.

Simple concepts generally confuse stupid people pretty easily.

The only reason I can think of for still having it, is about rural kids getting on the school bus in the dark, when days are short.

So jump ahead 30 minutes?!?
Just jump ahead to DST this weekend and stay there.

Most people are morons, that's why our state legislatures and the Congress are so screwed up: they mirror the people who elected them.

Idiot...

lol yep. other way around. I'm no rocket scientist.
Posted on 3/6/20 at 7:28 am to GetCocky11
like, how do they make the sun come up at different times?
Posted on 3/6/20 at 7:32 am to Displaced
To be fair I thought the OP's beef was someone's wording that the sun would come up an hour earlier or later. Obviously the sun doesn't change anything because of DST. I wasn't even considering the fact that the hour is going the other way and that was OP's issue with what he heard. But I'll own it. I'm the idiot.

The days are short during standard time, Daylight Saving Time does nothing to help kids getting on the bus in the dark.
Kentucky is currently pushing legislature to allow us to stay on Daylight Saving Time year round (which isn't currently allowed, only standard time). Which sound fine on the surface because it wouldn't get dark at 5 pm in the Winter but then you realize when the rest of the Eastern Time Zone fell back in the Winter Kentucky would stay put creating its own time zone for 4 months out of a year. Prime time TV would start at 9pm and those awful 9pm ESPN tip-offs would be 10pm tips

While this is true, back when DST was started, it had a different purpose, so kids had more time to work on the farm after school. The names don't mean much anymore. Time change doesn't bother me all that much, but I'm for whatever works better for everybody.
I really just hate seeing kids getting on the school bus in the dark, and in the most rural areas, it still happens.
If you had to pick one or the other to stay on, standard time would probably be the best, as far as that problem goes.
It's bad feeling to top a hill in a loaded 18 wheeler, and there's a stopped school bus, with kids getting on in the dark. It happens more on the western side of every time zone.
