Cancel culture isn't an effort to force institutional change. It's an effort to ruin an individual, economically, politically, and publicly. Your attempt equate this with the civil rights movement is asinine.

Josh, don’t you believe that people can change and learn and grow?

That people can be rehabilitated and not have actions long ago, bad or not, ruin their life in the present?

I absolutely do, and I don’t support the current iteration of cancel culture in that respect. Trolling people’s histories for an excuse to cancel them does more harm than good, in my opinion.

Give me a list of 'objectionable' beliefs etc.
I can do that for you as the National Museum of African American History and Culture did this for us as a way for us to recognize how are country has sytematic oppression built in

It is objectionable to live by the following as they are sub-conscious acts of sytematic racism:

quote:

to delay gratification
to plan for the future
to believe that tomorrow will be better
to follow rigid time schedules
to view time as a commodity
to respect authority
to place heavy value in ownership of goods, property, amd space
to protect property and entitlements
to believe in english common law
to belive intent counts
to be action oriented
to be decisive in your decision making
to "do something" about a situation
to be extroverted
to believe in written tradition
to avoid conflict
to be polict

these are objectionable qualities according to National Museum of African American History and Culture. And they are all examples of white culture opressing the system.

50 years ago this would be racist because it would probably been created by a KKK member. Today it is posted by National Museum of African American History and Culture

What about this one?

Well I knew an article from Fox News would leave some details out so I looked the story up myself and found some additional info.

quote:

Justin Kucera, a 28-year-old social studies teacher and baseball coach at Walled Lake Western High School, said he was summoned to a Zoom meeting with district administrators and questioned about three tweets he sent July 6.

Kucera retweeted a Trump tweet, saying "SCHOOLS MUST OPEN IN THE FALL!!!" and also tweeted:

"I'm done being silent. @realDonaldTrump is our president ... Don't @ me"

The latter tweet received several responses, including one that Kucera responded to with a tweet that said, "Liberals suck man." The tweet was later deleted.

A few days later, Kucera said he received an email from district supervisors asking him to attend a Zoom meeting about his tweets.

The Oakland County school district denied Kucera's story, saying "no disciplinary action was taken as a result of any support of President Trump." But the district declined more specific comment, citing confidentiality surrounding personnel matters.

The school district believes in "critical thinking," "positive discourse" and civil and respectful "community discussion," said Judy Evola, director of community relations for Walled Lake Consolidated Schools

"These are difficult times in our community and across our country," Evola said. "When issues arise, there’s a temptation to view items through the lens of our fractured political discourse. Walled Lake encourages students and staff members to engage each other with mutual respect and civility."

Kucera said he was told by the union that the tweets could be construed as impeding the business of the school, which would be grounds for firing, especially considering the school's title was listed on his Twitter page.

So a public HS teacher made a disparaging comment about an entire group of people with different polticial beliefs online and faced punishment for it. Sounds reasonable to me.

As I said before, no one can legally fire someone just for saying they support a presidential candidate.

Well that’s not true as I’ve already said, I’d get fired on the spot. But that’s for different reasons

quote:

However, espousing racist beliefs on the internet can come with consequences. Freedom of speech only keeps you out of jail. It does not protect you from public backlash.

What’s deemed as racist is always changing now. So legally if someone gets on FB and says All Lives Matter, say a teacher, they may not can be fired, but cancel culture can be so overwhelming to cause them to resign. Problem is they can go even further, depending on how big the story is, and keep them from getting a future job b/c employers don’t want the headache. A firefighter I don’t know personally but folks I know do,made that same post All Lives Matter and enough people went to the fire chief threatening to make it a big problem, he got told to delete it. He did and it went away. He somewhat avoided cancel culture, but if he hadn’t delete it, it could have become bad for he and his family

How about this guy? Was he racist for this?

I hate linking CNN, but how about this woman? Was she racist for doing her job?

Do I need to keep linking stories, or has the point got through?

There it is.

Your goal it seems was to vilify the board, not engage in actual dialogue.

You exposed yourself, now kindly frick off.

actual victims of racism
We all are, chief. Everybody participating in this thread has been negatively affected by racism in one way or another. Don't sit there and play the victim card like you are a black man living in the Jim Crow laws era. Life is nowhere near being like that right now.

For starters, we can't be. I have been passed up for a potential job because I wasn't black and they needed to put so many black candidates in the mix. I do not (and cannot) make racial jokes at work. But the same isn't the case for the black guys I work with. They can drop the n word all day long and they can gang up with one another and talk shite about the white dudes they work with. You let me do that same thing with the white guys I work with, and my arse is fired.

Why do people complain about "cancel culture?"

My understanding is when described as "cancel culture", these are people "protesting" something they disagree with. Rather, they use liberal news media and social media to shout down, ridicule, accuse, blame, to pressure those they don't agree with. A simple term for the behavior would be bully's.
Many of those in "cancel culture" have no well thought out reasoning for their position and are merely mimicking what they hear and see in the liberal news media.

Note they weren’t complaining about “cancel culture” when they were cancelling suspected communists, openly gay people, black people, Chinese people, people in mixed race relationships, etc.

This is a shite load of generalization, which is what collectivists excel st.

Your libertarian shtick wore off.

Sounds like he stated his opinion. Saying someone or a group of people sucks is good enough for them to be fired? That is asinine and ignorant.

So people should be fired for saying things like "liberals suck" or "conservatives suck" or "republicans suck"? What about states? "Alabama sucks" or "Louisiana sucks"? Is "nazis suck" okay? Or is that not taboo?

There didn't need to be 64. There just needed to be one.

His backup.

Please link me 5 examples of victims of either racism or homophobia in America in the last 5 years. Then we can see where this board fell on them. It’s not hard. Link the examples and I will go find the threads from that day.

Then please provide examples of people who promote homophobia and racism in 2020 and I’ll do the same.
