My only response to this is dont be srupid enough to write or say racist or homophobic things and you have anything to worry about.

It's cute you think what is considered racist or homophobic hasn't change over the past twenty years, much less ten.

It's also cute you think what is racist and homophobic wont change in the next ten years.

If there were justice in this world, jackasses like you would piss someone off who digs through your internet history and gets your life ruined. Then we'd see exactly how not a big deal cancel culture is to you.

"Cancel culture" is actively trying to get someone fired (and blacklisted) via social media mob mentality
Add to it remove statues and monuments, rename buildings, streets, artist names, Disney rides, college stadium names, college fight songs, team mascots...

Did I leave anything out?

Basically, completely turn everything upside down and act as if it all has to be redone. And make damn sure you go wayyyyyyy over the top and rename or restructure that thing that was changed to reflect somebody of the black race. It can't just be replaced with something new. We now have to act as if all US history begins and ends with somebody who is of the black race that did something great. We can't acknowledge anything of the white race anymore with supposedly feeling some kind of guilt behind it.

In the US, this will just get you fired (or removed from school if you are a student) and a target of an angry twitter mob.

Is "cancel culture" not just another way to say "protest?" I have heard many people lament that cancel culture is harmful because it suppresses viewpoints and promotes political correctness. However, why should people be expected to support people or institutions who say or do things they find objectionable? Furthermore, it seems to me like both sides of the aisle engages in cancel culture in one way or another. When Donald Trump says he wont watch the NFL if players kneel for the anthem is he not engaging in cancel culture?

Jesus, reading that was actually painful. I'm not sure how America got to the point where so many people can't or won't utilize critical thinking, but it's sad for so many different reasons.

Who said it was something racist posted? You do know there were threads posted on here just this week (yesterday I believe) about a teacher/coach being fired for simply posting support for Trump on social media right?

Well something like that would 100% be an exception to the norm and illegal if I might add. But you seem to be picking one instance of a situation that is far removed from what usually gets someone "cancelled."

If making fun of vegans on the internet turns taboo in the future, I'm going to be in serious trouble.

Donald Trump has millions of Twitter followers and he publicly said he wont watch the NFL if players kneel. You dont think that was intended to be a threat to the NFL of what it to come if players continue to kneel? If you cant see what Trump was trying to do then you must have very little critical thinking skills.

As do Lebron James, Jemele Hill, etc. and they say far worse.

You are trying to make something into something it's not. I decide if I want to watch the NFL. The President saying he won't doesn't affect my decision.

Because you can get fired or denied entry to college based on political beliefs.

Or you can wear a hat and be doxed by CNN where you and your family receive harassment and death threats.

Wow. So stupid on so many levels.

Who says they have to support it? Can't they just be ignored? No, the people who support cancel culture have to go out of their way to get people fired from their jobs because they don't agree with whatever whacky thing that is en Vogue at the moment. There's a huge difference in supporting something and actively trying to tear down someone's life.

Are those NFL players that kneel being fired, doxxed, and harassed? And before you say Kaepernick was fired for kneeling, just know that he is the one who didn't sign his player option on his contract and has actively torpedoed any tryouts he was granted for multiple teams. So don't even give me that BS an example.

You're either playing dumb, are dumb, or have no idea what "cancel culture" means.

Protesting an organization is not the same as cancelling someone. Cancel culture is going after an individual, his family, etc. Me saying I won’t shop at Walmart due to whatever, is protesting that company. Me seeing an employee off shift wearing a BLM shirt, then going after her to ruin her and her family, personally, viral on the internet, etc would be cancel culture. Cancel culture is actively trying to destroy someone or a company, protesting is more passive in saying I just personally won’t shop there, but not going after them to destroy their company

Someone telling me they won’t use my windshield services is one thing, someone actively campaigning to destroy my company is another

It was a principal of a high school. And they got fired after an angry mob forced their employer to terminate them after posting pro-Trump statements.

We've also seen Deans of a Nursing program get fired for saying "All Lives Matter" - which is especially true for medical professionals.

Reading through the thread it's obvious you aren't really looking to get answers for what you posed in the OP, but if you really want to look there are a lot more instances than the one example I posted. Carry on with your trolling though

Every self proclaimed conservative I’ve had this conversation with.

Note they weren’t complaining about “cancel culture” when they were cancelling suspected communists, openly gay people, black people, Chinese people, people in mixed race relationships, etc.

BLUF - None of the things that have been "cancelled" will make a shred of difference. Until the excuse making for certain groups stops, it will be a repetitive cycle.

People and institutions are ostracized for their objectionable beliefs and actions.
Define objectionable.

Give me a list of 'objectionable' beliefs etc.

Now I'll ask 10 posters here to give me their list of objectionable beliefs. I'll follow that by asking 10 people in the office for their list of objectionable beliefs. I will then complete the list with my objectionable beliefs.

Guess what you're going to get? A big steaming pile of shite that you can't be bothered to sift through due to the wild variance in answers.

That is why cancel culture is ridiculous. You can say anything, and I quite literally mean anything, and if it just happens to tick a box that the hate mob has now designated objectionable, you're fricked if it gets traction.

Think of a stupid joke you made at 15. Say you're now 27, much more mature, moved on from a lot of dumb things and have a solid career. Someone digs through your media past, sees you make a dumb joke at 15, causes it to go viral, and now you're fired from your job and blacklisted from multiple other places.

Shall I go on?

So I’ve spoken with multiple people who believe Kaep got what he deserved but believed Brees had his freedom abridged.

I feel like I was clear on that point already.
