Is "cancel culture" not just another way to say "protest?" I have heard many people lament that cancel culture is harmful because it suppresses viewpoints and promotes political correctness. However, why should people be expected to support people or institutions who say or do things they find objectionable? Furthermore, it seems to me like both sides of the aisle engages in cancel culture in one way or another. When Donald Trump says he wont watch the NFL if players kneel for the anthem is he not engaging in cancel culture?

Congratulations, you're cancelled.

No he is making a personal choice and NFL players aren't being fired and having their lives ruined for kneeling

They bitch because they are no longer in charge of deciding who gets cancelled.

Ask them to explain how Brees’ freedom of speech was abridged but Kaep’s wasn’t.

Cancelling and boycotting are not the same thing.

I don't think you fully understand what cancel culture is.

An example of cancel culture would be if I posted I support Trump on Facebook. Then a bunch of people go after my job, look up every posts I’ve ever made in my life to find something to get me fired for, threatening my family, and making me go viral due to a simple post I made. It can happen to anyone, over any little thing.

The problem is, many people and corporations are basically blackmailed into supporting things they wouldn’t normally support under fears of being labeled racists, white supremest, fascists, etc.

Explain how they are different. Would it not be fair to say that the public transit system in Montgomery, AL was "cancelled" by the Civil Rights Movement?

Cancel culture is getting people fired and blacklisted from being rehired. It's a life sentence for someone without due process.

I can't think of much worse, honestly.

Because trying to make sure another person cannot make a living because they have different opinions than you is about as unamerican as it gets. That is an objective statement. If you disagree, you are not on the side of history or American ideals.

Because people who do the cancel culture go out to RUIN people's lives and get them fired. This happens all because someone may say something at 16 that someone disagrees with or even a thought can bring about cancel culture. It's a terrible thing.

Is this the same former San Francisco QB who had his own personal tryout and then refused any offers?
