re: What is the point of a debate?

The seemingly rage filled debates don't accomplish much of anything.
Actual productive debates to learn more about views contrary to your own can benefit all parties. They've become more rare sadly, but they do happen.

Moving my way through NG+ now gradually. I've been experimenting with the other options at this stage to see how they all feel.
While I definitely have my preferences in dual swords and switchglaive on samurai, I'm impressed with how good the other weapons feel in their potential in this game. Pretty much all of the weapons throughout the series history have felt great in some way, so it's good to see that pattern continue with the new system. Dual swords feel insanely good to me now with arts proficiency. I still haven't tried Axe on Nioh 3 yet, but I expect it to be hilarious as usual
I still haven't tried splitstaff or hatchet in this game, but I remember trying them a bit in 2. Splitstaff was notorious for Dragon Dance just vaporizing targets, so curious to see if that continues. The other ninja weapons have felt good for various reasons, and the air shenanigans feel so good to pull off.
I was a little iffy on the guardian spirit skill as a replacement to yokai abilities in 2, but it's grown on me very quickly. I'm glad they included mid air capabilities for a good number of them as well.

quote:The difficulty curve in this one is a bit different. The first two had a large spike with a boss very early meant to check if you learned how to play the game at all. After that, it calms down since you know what you're doing to some degree.
I gotta say, all I heard at launch was how much easier this one is. I must absolutely suck
This one doesn't really have that and just gets gradually more difficult overall as you go. It's a smoother difficulty progression rather than a spiky one. That said, if you try to learn and use the systems, you'll make it through

Cleared the base game including the boss rushes. Now on to the NG+ build crafting.
Now that I've had a lot more time with the new systems and flow, I'm very impressed with what Team Ninja did here considering they were following up Nioh 2. This game has even more mechanical depth, and it's not meaningless depth either. I'm already looking forward to the DLCs adding more wild stuff to play around with.
I also think a lot of the new bosses are just all around cool and fun to fight. Only two really stuck out to me as somewhat obnoxious, and I've enjoyed the rest otherwise. I had a good time with Rise of the Ronin which is when they first took a stab at the open world esque approach, so I figured I would have a good time with it here now that they have refined it a bit.

quote:They've been doing that with the Nioh series and other games as you mentioned. Many of the figures that popup are in history and the yokai are detailed in the folklore. I enjoy it personally.
I had some inkling that Team Ninja was using actual historical figures and historical events to craft the narrative of these games.

Y'all come across the Demon of Pride yet? So much fun.
Fairly sure I'm in the last major zone of the game which has been a very fun and wild ride already. Seems bigger than the original zone to me, or at least comparable.
Late game ninjutsu is also very wild in terms of damage output and utility. Some of the combo videos I've seen have given me a lot of ideas as well.
Twitter link with proof of concept of some ideas. He limited his damage intentionally to showcase some stuff, but the ideas are applicable to bosses as far as I can tell.

Definitely in late game now. I made more of an effort to use ninja mode and weave it in more with samurai since I have been defaulting to samurai more often than not. Man, I have been underestimating ninja's potential, especially when used with samurai.

In the 2nd major area now and enjoying the game so much man
Dual Swords on Samurai feel so good to use with the new arts prof mechanic. Ninjutsu has also felt much better to use than I thought it would at first

quote:Just observing this thread, but as someone who has been on a serious spiritual journey for about the last 7 months, I would just stop posting brother. You mean well, but you're saying a bunch of things that are gross misrepresentations of actual Catholic teachings. I say this as someone in a nebulous denominational state. I'm not going to go into correcting them because I'll be here all day doing it given these aren't simple theological issues, and I would recommend doing some study on your own. I particularly recommend looking at actual Catholic apologists out there who can speak on these matters so that whether or not you agree, you at least can speak more accurately about what they believe.
That’s John 6:53-58, and it is not literal. We don’t sacrifice Jesus over and over again and literally eat His body and drink His blood He is referring to our faith in Him alone, being in Him and He in us, even as He and the Father are one. When He died on the cross we too died, and when He rose, our spirit man rose with Him, and now we are not two, but one. We have a different heart, desires, and place with God as Jesus is in us and we in Jesus. We are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, and yet still bodily here of course.

Completed the base demo although there's some remaining things to do.
So far I'm having a blast with it. They took parts from Ronin which I enjoyed and upped the ante as usual with the game mechanics. I'm been sticking to Samurai a lil too much, but Ninja has felt fantastic! I'm already looking forward to full release

I do appreciate the emphasis on avoiding more unhealthy options, and this is a good step imo. That said, it won't matter much until heavier emphasis is placed on the abysmal portion sizes we have. Eating healthier is great and all, but eating too much of a healthy thing will still lead to unhealthy weight gain, even if it is reduced.
The biggest change for me years ago in terms of diet health really was just portion size limitations, and from what I've seen in others, portion sizes are the biggest problem.

quote:I really don't understand this as I have closing in on 40 hours at this point, and I definitely see tremendous build variety. Arguably even more than the 1st one
I hate the stupid magic crap they force upon you. I think the first was much better, it's a roguelike, i should be able to play a variety of different ways.
The magic stuff is just charged versions of what you already had with a resource. That kind of stuff adds to build variety.
re: 73% of gamers are in favor of online ID verification for games if it stops cheating.

quote:While true, severe barriers mitigate their ability to actively cheat. The reason they're back to cheating so quickly is they just make a new account and grab the game again. All you need for that is a throwaway email and maybe some money since free games are a thing.
cheaters will find and share a loophole in this system and be back to playing within hours. it’s what they do. it’s what they enjoy. the actual cheating is just their victory lap.
Having to go through an ID verification is a much more complex layer since I assume any implementation of this is checking that the person entered is actually real. So they would need another person's information, but using that enters the world of fraud. Actual legal trouble could pop up at that point (in theory anyway).
Cheating in video games to my knowledge has never had a barrier remotely close to that in the west.

That hardcore difficulty is something I'll consider down the road when the itch hits again. I'll likely do spear finally for that run.

quote:Just for context, but in base game the gear basically is bigger base number and go.
As for min-maxing the gear in Nioh, it's fun but I found it largely irrelevant at the end of the day because the stat bonuses are so small relative to the damage going on, it doesn't make much of a real difference. You are either good at the combat in which case your gear largely doesn't matter, or you're bad at the combat in which case your gear largely doesn't matter.
As you go through the NG cycles, you have to start getting picky heavily since maintaining a proper gear set becomes critical. Not just due to numbers but also due to new mechanics etc in the NG cycles.

Been enjoying it decently well so far. I like the emphasis on boss weakness since it is an actual mechanic interaction usually rather than just pure bonus damage.
Also glad they finally have the talismans showing numbers (although some could still be more detailed). Too bad that in the same game weapons don't have more indepth item details in a run so you can check scaling  FromSoft QoL continues to be the monkey's paw.
The character mechanics so far feel pretty good and thought out. I hope they bring a lot of the gameplay concepts forward into future titles since these abilities really help spice up the combat.
