According to someone like Jamelle Hill, being a racist should get a person fired. Also according to Hill, voting for Trump is racist with zero wiggle room.

So now imagine a USA where you can be fired for whom you vote.

That is cancel culture.

"Cancel culture" is actively trying to get someone fired (and blacklisted) via social media mob mentality

And they aren't going after celebrities or businesses exclusively. They are going after middle America.

They want to get Trump supporters fired. Some radical left wing organizations have actually hired lawyers to comb through social media posts for people they are against politically.

No that’s called being an adult and making a choice. Cancel culture is not wanting anyone to ever again watch the NFL because they triggered your sensitive feelings.

See the difference?

Donald Trump has millions of Twitter followers and he publicly said he wont watch the NFL if players kneel. You dont think that was intended to be a threat to the NFL of what it to come if players continue to kneel? If you cant see what Trump was trying to do then you must have very little critical thinking skills.

When Donald Trump says he wont watch the NFL if players kneel for the anthem is he not engaging in cancel culture?

He's not trying to get people fired for their beliefs...or for what they said or posted 15 years ago.

I don't think you understand what cancel culture actually is in 2020.

This is just false logic. In this instance you wouldnt be "cancelled" for supporting Trump. You would be "cancelled" for whatever racist or homophobic thing you so foolishly posted on the internet. And if you lose your job because of that it is your own fault.

Who said it was something racist posted? You do know there were threads posted on here just this week (yesterday I believe) about a teacher/coach being fired for simply posting support for Trump on social media right?

Um, I understand the process. OP is the one who seems to be lacking common sense on this matter.

Why dont you explain it to me then? Others here have given me their view of it and it sounds exactly like wgat I thought it was. People and institutions are ostracized for their objectionable beliefs and actions.

My only response to this is dont be srupid enough to write or say racist or homophobic things and you have anything to worry about.

You're being dumb about this. Multiple people in this thread have said saying, MAGA or I support Trump is good enough to ruin your life and get you fired. Are you agreeing that these two statements are racist and homophobic? because if you are then you are part of the problem.

Edited to add, you're a fricking idiot.

I find what you posted very offensive and because of this I must cancel you. I’ll be contacting your employer and demanding your immediate termination and a personal apology. Lastly I will bang your mom and you will call me daddy

This is likely true.

And I doubt they want to go into what Skai Jackson was doing to CHILDREN on the internet.

Read up on McCarthyism. Cancel culture is a Left wing version of it. With some Orwell thrown in for good measure.

So the social media mob can be judge, jury and executioner on what is deemed racist or homophobic? What's the statute of limitations? Are the same rules applied to all races and genders?

I will use Brees as an example (and please leave the after the fact redacting he did out of this conversation). The mob took a 10 second soundbite out of a 90 second answer he gave to a question that was asked of him and the man was deemed a racist by a lot of "influencers" on social media. Disregard everything the man has done in his life up to this point - he was now a racist. You see the problem?
