Why do online retailers think we need daily emails clogging up our inboxes?

Last month I ordered some t shirts from True Classic. Ever since, I have received multiple emails every day from them. I just ordered the fricking shirts, did they think I forgot about them already?

But their unrelenting wave of emails has forced me to unsubscribe from them. Which will make me less likely to buy from them in the future.

And I'm seeing the same from a lot of other online retailers. Just constant emails. Which forces me to unsubscribe. Which makes me less likely to want to deal with them in the future. And on and on.

You don’t have a 20 year old Gmail account for all that shite?

I did the same thing with the same company. The emails were relentless.

It’s rough. Always a good idea to spend a few minutes every now and then unsubscribing from all that shite

I’m too lazy but should set up a different email for all the online retailers.

That's the point.

You aren't who they're trying to reach.

Email lists are a numbers game. You get the emails. You send out a newsletter or a promotion. Then you watch the metrics. Then you start changing variables to see what gets a higher hit rate. More clicks means more opportunity to entice you to buy on the site.

Lot of clicks and no purchases? The emails are working. The site needs to hook you. That's the next refinement.

It's got not a single thing to do with you. It's literally a conversion game.

My favorite is when you buy something that you 99% will only need one of and shouldn't need another for a very long time and you get a daily e-mail about giving you a discount for buying another one.

Opt out of their emails except those related to your purchase & delivery.
but...
Why on earth are you using your primary communication email for internet business????

Exactly. I keep getting promo emails for boxer briefs that I only bought like 7 years ago.

I used to have an old Cox email account for that stuff. But we cancelled cox and the email was shut down. Haven’t bothered making a new one yet.

We recently go a Rural King near where I live. I've been there once, and get 2 emails a day from them. Ace Hardware is almost as bad, and Sam's Club slams me with emails and texts.

Shout out Fanatics for the 30 emails they sent after I bought a father's day gift for my brother last month and for not stopping until a few days after I hit unsubscribe. Preciate that

I bought some of those “no stink” underwear from Diluth trading company and ultimately had to block them….i was getting an e-mail every couple of hours.

The answer to your question…they do it because it is free….

Sounds like a miserable job chasing down that shite. I'd rather hang off the back of a garbage truck and build my upper body cut.

Some retailers I've bought from will send something only when they have a special deal, maybe once a month or so. I'll allow it.

But when they start the daily barrage of emails, I unsubscribe, develop a hatred for them, and am less likely to do business with them again. I don't get why they seem to do all they can to drive away a customer.

Amazon is the worst about this. I bought a toilet seat on there. I only have 3 toilets in the house, and a seat is something I might replace once every 5 years. That shouldn't show up in the buy it again category, ever.
