Most Floridians are from Ohio or Michigan? Where does that come from? Seems wildly inaccurate.

I’m in my late 30s and I can’t wait to retire to my current vacation home in NW Florida. Nothing like waking up to a view of the blue gulf every morning. Much better than my usual view of my neighbors house on the North Shite.

think Florida would have been a great place to retire 30 or 4o years ago.. the problem now is that, due to man-made climate change (sorry not sorry, not veering into politics since science has nothing to do with politics) now it’s just way too damn hot for most of the year.. i’m only in my 40s but the heat has gotten so bad, in FL and elsewhere, that it will be detrimental to human life in a few decades, if not soon
Not getting into a climate debate... but has the average temperature increased by more than a few degrees at most in the last 30 years?

Most people moving to florida after retirement are from northern states (with high taxes, FWIW). Basically they've lived their lives in the snow and are tired of it. They drive south until the can't drive 'souther' - Boom. Florida.

I hate anything above about 83-85 degrees. I should have moved to the PNW when I was younger.

It was 81 here today in Olympia. Absolutely the best summers of anywhere I’ve lived (12 different states).

1. Taxes
2. Weather

As for as I’m concerned. I will be moving to Costa Rica in a few years.
1. Medical insurance $200 a month.
2. Taxes
3. Weather

When medicare and medicad kick in, I will move back.

A lot of them lived in the northeast in a 1500 sq. ft. box home. They were able to sell it for $600,000, move to FL, and spend $200,000 for a decent cookie cutter in a 55+ community. The HOA fees are about $1200 a year and they don't have to do yardwork.

Here are some things they do, once moved in:

They go corner younger people in the grocery and pharmacy, and rant about how great things were up north.

They get on the roads at rush hour and drive 10% below the speed limit, mindlessly turning, and changing lanes without benefit of blinkers.

They watch the grocery store ads and are at the store at opening time to descend on any good sale items, like locusts. they will buy 50 cans of chicken noodle soup if it is $.46 per can.

They will fight you to the death to make sure you understand that Hurricane Sandy was 10x worse than Andrew.

They vote for retards, based on affiliation. Qualifications mean nothing.

They bitch constantly about the heat. If only there had been some way to know it was hot in FL before they chose to move here.

Etc.

I hate Florida and would never want to live there.

That being said, I’m in my 30’s along with my wife and we both have arthritis. My wife’s is way worse than mine and by the time she is in her 60’s she might not be able to walk normally. The pressure drops and changes from bad storms are what get both of us. I can tell about 24-36 hours before a storm is coming and she can tell about 8-10 hrs before.

All that being said, we both know we are going to end up in Florida because we don’t want to deal with the storm pressure like we do now.

As my elder friend from WVa says, “you don’t shovel heat”. Made his decision to live in Florida simple.
