Baws, can y’all explain why so many people are moving to Florida for retirement?

What’s so special about Florida....

Inexpensive housing.
No state income tax.
No snow.

Have you ever been inside an old person’s house in the summer time? They use the heater all year round because they’re always cold.

It's always warm. Old people are always cold because Death's icy hand is only a heartbeat away.

Also, Florida has no income tax. Distributions from a tax-deferred retirement plan are taxed as regular income. So, in Florida, it isn't subject to state taxation, only federal. Their money goes farther.

Weather. People from Ohio and Michigan (where most Floridians are from) get tired of the blizzards and shoveling snow. They don't wanna have to work at home upkeep in their 70's and 80's. Plus you can do shite outdoors all year long and when you're old that's important.

That said, I hate Florida. Way too fricking hot and way too many fricking annoying Yanks (in south Florida).

Screw the humidity and mosquitos and storms. When I'm ancient, I'm headed to a Del Webb or Toll Bros enclave out west, LV, Phoe, Palm Desert, Scottsdale, etc..

Bunch of damn BS. If you manage to actually save money and make it to old age and aren’t a drain on the rest of us then you should just get the cash.

Warm weather is easier on the joints. The secretary I work with is moving back to Florida when she retires in a couple of years because her arthritis is atrocious in the winter here.

If it is post-tax money, I agree.

Low taxes
Insanely nice real estate and most isn't dramatically over priced
Beaches are nicer than living in snow

But mainly, Florida has promoted for 30 years now as how you should retire, so people automatically think Florida for retirement. So many people just think it's what you do and do it. We are all sheep in the end.

Well, Nevada is the only one listed that doesn’t have state income tax. And their housing is more expensive.

I'm retiring to Mirimar Beach when the time comes. It's fricking beautiful there.
