They didn't test.
A bunch of reasons
Frail people over there just die off
They aren't sedentary.
They get exposed to all kinds of shite and have amazing immune systems.

Living in India makes you immune to most things.

I'm more impressed that these countries didn't have 1 single protest or any statue taken down.

early aggressive public health policies albeit draconian by western countries is the correct answer
Malaysia's timing was right with the US. They also struggled at first with what to do. They had a large religious event at a local mosque with 16K worshipers all together for a few days in February and it spread like wildfire through the worshipers. They also document how every case got the virus. You can go on the following site and see if they were at the religious event, flew in from Wuhan (1st cases) or just caught it from another case. Very detailed.

Those countries stand to benefit the most from the US economy as their relationship grows. Their economies have been growing massively.
You'll find that more movies from Netflix and other streaming programs will start to air their movies that collaborate with Hollywood.
This is why we're breaking from China and why China is throwing a major fit to fight everyone. Including unleashing the COVID-19 onto the US and why the Democrats who have benefited from the relationship from China including the Bush family have been opposed to the current administration.

Any theories as to why Southeast Asia did so well with such thin health infrastructure?

This is the biggest part. Constantly using purel, kids not playing in dirt as much, anti-biotics for every sniffle, etc. has made us weak.
Let your kid drink hose water, get dirty, not wash hands after petting the dog, and fight off the common cold on their own. They will be healthier for it.

I work with folks in India. In their province, they have been on extreme lockdown for 2 months now. They don't leave their home for any reason, police and others bring food to their homes.
I do too and it's crazy to be on the other end and seeing their response. That first weekend that everything went on lockdown, it was like a storm hit or something over there. It took about 3-4 days before a sizable chunk of them were able to get online and some were practically 'missing' for close 2 weeks.

I agree Cash and I’ll add one more thing to your list. Bite and chew on their fingernails. I know a bunch of y’all thinks that’s utterly repulsive but biting your fingernails helps your immune system build up resistance to certain pathogens. I’m obviously not a doctor but I read an interesting medical theory on that. I wouldn’t recommend nail biting now with Covid out there though.

Because they didn’t it’s as simple as that. Don’t test and you don’t have it

Vietnam is a good example. They had early, draconian lockdowns, extremely invasive mass surveillence-based contact tracing, and a very young population. They took actions you never could (or would want to) in a democratic country.

If you don’t report cases, it makes you look good.
