Why did Hurricane Michael not get nearly the coverage that Hurricane Florence did?

It went from landfall to the Carolinas in like 12 hrs.

That a-hole was moving.

Not enough time to overhype and disaster porn it.

Speed. Less populated area with less attraction to viewers in the Northeast.

Florence had a long approach as a strong hurricane.

Michael blew up the night before landfall. People basically woke up with a Category 4 a few hours from landfall.

Popped up suddenly
Not a long tracker
Predicted to hit as a Tropical Storm on Wed. at 2:00pm. This was on Saturday at 4:00pm on the weekend.

4:00am Sunday changed to a cat 1 hurricane.

1:00 am Monday first predicted to become a major hurricane

Then it wasn't predicted to become a Cat IV til the morning it hit.

The hype machine was late to the party

1 it was very fast moving and not expected to be bad

2 it was heading to a predominantly all republican area so MSM doesnt care if non liberal normal people die

3 they learned with Florance that they werent going to be able to spin anything because trump has his shite together with his response to these things before and after so not worth their time if they cant score points

Florence spent time on the coast. days
Michael sped up as it approached the coast and then moved smartly into Georgia.
Hence many differences. the slow storm produced record rain. the fast storm had a higher storm surge and higher MAX winds. Check out the photos and video of Mexico Beach.

Couple of reasons:

1) Despite the fact that the North Central Gulf Coast beaches stretching from GS/OB to Destin to 30-A to PCB are very popular among visitors from all over the Midwest, Great Plains states, Texas, and the entire Southeast (with the exception of maybe the Carolinas and Virginia), the northern Gulf Coast doesn't resonate much at all with the East Coast/Northeast dominated national media. The media elites pay attention when the Carolinas are threatened because they at least somewhat know those beaches or know people who vacation there. Not as much with the northern Gulf Coast which they write off as Trump/Red state country.

2) Speed and relatively short duration of Michael compared to Florence

The cynic in me thinks they could have seen a NC hurricane landfall as a potential landmine for Trump if the federal government/FEMA didn't respond well and the fact that NC is considered more of a toss up state politically could have peaked their interest more.

It has nothing to do with politics. Anyone suggesting otherwise is helpless.

ETA not replying to you specifically Tide.
