My request includes a diesel though. Do we have small diesel SUV's? I think VW has a midsized one.

I loved the S-10 from the mid 90's.

I’m honestly surprised there are not more diesel vehicles in general. Their durability and reliability coupled with efficiency should make them more desired one might think.

I'm a diesel fan and own a 7.3, but with the price of diesel and the gas turbo torque tech (and lack of interest now in biodiesel)... Meh.

My Subaru ascent has 500lb tongue and 5000lb capacity, best AWD system on market, nearly 9" stock gc and gets 30moh highway.

Throw garden equipment in its bed without dirtying up the inside

Haul a load of sand/gravel for an outdoor project

Haul multiple fish slime covered ice chests

Throw a deer or hog in it

Just a few things I thought of that would be beneficial to me over an SUV

Not diesel but those little Toyotas they used to make would run forever. Couldn’t tear them up

This really hits the point. I don't need a giant F-250, though I do love them. I just need a small truck for smaller projects, and a 4 cylinder diesel to get great mileage.

An Indian manufacturer had tried to bring a model to the US, no frills turbo diesel compact pickup. EPA regulations killed it. We won't see such a vehicle as long as the EPA continues it's backwards, anti-science stance of focusing on tailpipe emissions over fuel economy.

His main ride is a badass FJ40 that I have demanded in the will but he loves that damn Isuzu to make runs to the feed store and lumber yard.

He just gave my 15 yo his 87 Toyota 4x4 for his first vehicle. Pronounced where I live as “VEE-hickle”

See above, though that's an 85 or 86. I love those. What a great thing to pass down. I always regret selling my first and even second vehicle. I had an S-10 and loved it.

I really would love for someone to make compact pickups again, diesel or not. Something the size of the old S10 or 90s Ranger.

The “mid size” pickups of today would be full size even just 20 years ago. It sucks there’s no option for a compact pickup other than to buy used, which are getting older and rarer, but that’s what I’ll continue doing until they start making them again.

I don’t think you’re gonna get great mileage and I’m sure the maintenance on a newer model
Diesel will negate any benefits from whatever mileage may provide.

The maintenance cost coupled with the ridiculously high price of diesel would ruin whatever benefit you’ll see over a gas burner in a compact truck IMO
