I ask you again, would you serve?

What do you think he's going to say, realistically?

I'm not questioning the point you're making. But if he says "yes, I would" then you'd say "well you didn't so sounds like BS." Which is a fair point, talk is cheap.

I didn't, although I certainly like to think I wouldn't run from it if called upon. But I'm not going to tout my willingness to do something I made a conscious decision not to do because I wanted to do something else instead.

They are getting paid for a job just like the rest of us. No one forced current soldiers into this role.

Because military service is in no way, shape, or form like a corporate job.

Not really.

The whole not being able to quit your job if you end up working for a dickhead, being shipped off to the arse end of nowhere for a year or more at a time not being able to see friends and family, etc. tends to suck, and is something your average civilian never has to deal with.

It’s pretty cringy. My brother was in the AF and HATED when people said it to him.

If I served I would find the respect to be uplifting and encouraging. I don’t like attention, but appreciation is always nice.

I am thankful for anyone who is willing to go into the service regardless of what perks they may receive. They deserve it. Their service is important for our protection.

One reason is because they are willing to stand in the gap when necessary to defend our country and freedoms.

Exactly. I don’t understand why anyone would have an issue with showing appreciation for what they do that protects us all. Jobs in general are stressful, but their stress can be different and it benefits us all. I like the peace of mind knowing others are willing to do it, so I don’t have to. If there ever was a draft again I would also be thankful to those who serve. I sure wouldn’t want to do it, but I respect those who do.

Because most of them decided to go into war zones while you worked in an air conditioned office where the biggest threat was Becky coming in any given day with a wedding invitation for her daughter.

Only a small percentage of our military sees combat. The percentage is only slightly larger for those who serve in a war zone.

Many of our military never leave the country

And they still have to deal with shite no civilian has to. Not to mention the unable to quit your job if you hate your boss part.

This is similar to what a lot of my friends thought as well. May not have hated it, but Def gave the eye roll “no problem” response every time

They are getting compensated just like everyone else. The large majority would not do it for free, nor should they...
