Speed limits are oppressive. Probably a subsidy to those God-awful airlines and their appalling fartcans.

No way I'd ever get on a plane if I could drive as fast as I want.

I actually did once, and I made it from Midtown Atlanta to Long Beach, MS in 3 hours, 50 minutes.

Agreed. Too slow.

Mine was designed to go over 180 mph.

Have you ever need to pass a log truck on a curvy and hilly 2 lane Mississippi highway? That passing window can be pretty short. Quick acceleration from 50 mph is pretty nice.

I just got off the Autobahn going over 90 is great. The problem is that people in the US are too stupid to get the concept to get over in the right lane and the left lane is designed for passing only. Old people form Texas are by far the worst offenders and a lot of them will stay in the left lane doing 60 in a 70.

Because on an interstate, assuming that everyone is adhering to the rules, and assuming safe traffic patterns, 90 mph is completely safe.

Because i like doing 150mph pulls in Mexico for the gram baw.

Seriously though, even if you electronically limited cars to 90 or 95 (like many countries do) the aftermarket would will crack the ECU in about 20 minutes to remove that restriction.

The better question would be why are speed limits so low when cars have been designed to be much safer at higher speeds?

While I agree, the speed limits aren't really the problem in Louisiana. It's the dumbass drivers that prevent the speed limit from even being reached in a lot of places, that and not utilizing the lanes as intended/legally required.

God I miss living in Germany.

It was such a rude awakening when I moved back to the US and started driving here again. Cell phones had really taken of while I was in Germany, so when I came back not only did I have to deal with left lane assholes, I had to deal with left lane assholes on their phones.

People really don't understand how efficient a highway system can be until you've driven on the autobahn.

I get severe road rage when I go home and drive on any Interstate. It is a simple concept that for whatever reason some can't get the concept.

Not in a 3/4 ton F-250. It holds the road quite nice, actually - even at 85 and 90mph.

Most vehicles actually aren't designed for those speeds.

Hence why in anything other than a sports car the shaking and instability in anything over 80 is pretty pronounced.

I drove a deleted and tuned F250 157 once and it rode pretty good

The future is likely that the new gps and digital networks will transmit the legal speed limit to cars on that roadway. The car will have technology they will then limit the cars top speed to something not much over the legal limit for non police cars. They’ll allow it to go over to allow for passing.

Not saying I like it, but that’s likely where we are headed with technology and self driving technology being developed.

They do it for the kids. When we were young, we all wanted to drive fast. Fast cars, and the government allowing cars to go fast, helped fulfill those dreams.

It helped raise money too. Some of us did drive fast, and gave the state a ton of money in fines.
