Why are vehicles allowed to be designed over 90 mph?

Doesn't make any sense to me.
Except for very rural areas on roads with no speed limit, I don't know of any roads in USA with speed limits over 75 or 80 mph.
Being allowed to put an increased death trap to effect a lot of other people.
Crazy talk. I thought this was Murica. I get it.

To discourage texting. Anyone could text at very slow speeds.

Or... maybe you’re just Ill-informed?
“Drive 85 mph on State Highway 130 in Texas today and you won't be getting a ticket. It's the legal limit on this 40-mile stretch of a new toll road between Austin and San Antonio. It's not free-if you feel the need for speed the price tag is $6.17 one way.”

Most vehicles actually aren't designed for those speeds.
Hence why in anything other than a sports car the shaking and instability in anything over 80 is pretty pronounced.

Because in some other countries you can go over 90mph and most automakers market globally?

Not in a 3/4 ton F-250. It holds the road quite nice, actually - even at 85 and 90mph.

The better question would be why are speed limits so low when cars have been designed to be much safer at higher speeds?
Take away the revenue from artificially low speed limits and you'd see the govt raise the limit to where it should be and that's no speed limit and just watching for reckless drivers. But that will never happen because even though the money is great for the govts to be raking in... the control is even better.

I guess you don't do Texas Toll Road 130 (by-passes Austin) - speed limit on much of the 90 mile highway is 85, and if you do travel at that speed you're impeding the flow of traffic.
