When NOLA was really wealthy it wasn't based on tourism but oil/gas and shipping. Wealthy and business expense diners built that restaurant industry. Wealthy donors paid for those museums. Wealthy planters built entertainment further paid for by business spenders
Sorry, but I was told it was built by black people.

Don’t. It’s really none of your business.
And when my children are older and crime, panhandling, and trashiness decreases in these areas I’ll be happy to take them. Until then, I’ll refrain from exposing them to trash.

You’re the type to give parenting advice when you don’t have any children of your own.

Over the last 5 years, New Orleans has seen a noticeable increase in violent crime in tourist areas and in broad daylight. It’s one thing for crime to be frequent late at night in poor neighborhoods where law-abiding people and tourists never go, but it’s another for violent crime to be out of control in affluent neighborhoods (Uptown) and in the centers of tourism (CBD/French Quarter).

Go figure. Those without children always have advice for those with. It’s the most egregious and hilarious form of Monday Morning QB’ing.

I agree. New Orleans has so much history to offer. Food, hospitality. Just stay off of Bourbon, French Quarter after 6pm.... simple as that.
Just out of curiosity, yesterday, I went online to view other cities and their local news.
NEWSFLASH ......Crime is everywhere, not just Nola.

We are talking about New Orleans, not Baton Rouge.
Getting shot in bad areas. Not just going to dinner or driving on the highway and I rip BR on crime. Some areas are messy mostly due to the users a d not that they weren’t clean to begin with. Urine smell is specifically downtown NOLA and it’s not even close.

Have Y'all just seen the new alert just issued by the State Department? Damn.
BTW heading to the Quarters in a little bit. Gonna stroll and maybe have some drinks on the balcony of Tableau. I'll report back if we survive. Prayers up!

So why is the mayor waging an all out war on tourism?

Hotels were at 90% occupancy this weekend . That’s the highest it’s been in over 18 months.

I was surprised by four things this past weekend.
1. I thought i’d see more libs wearing masks. Very few mask police inside or out.
2. The amount of people there in general. It was as packed as i’ve ever seen it.
3. How western it got after 2am..... A whole lot of locals.... A LOT! When the cops bring out the horses and portable lighting, you know it rough.
4. I’ve personally never ran from gunfire in all my years going there, last weekend was a first.

I'd rather be in the French Quarter at night than be in Downtown Memphis at night.
Downtown Memphis is one of the most dangerous places to be in the United States, especially if you are white and look like you have a little money in your pocket.
I know Nola is dangerous but I don't feel that same fear that I feel when in Memphis.

If someone had vomited on the sidewalk you were walking on, you wouldnt warn approaching pedestrians to avoid that area?
Same concept

It is time to give that city back to the river.

Seven separate shootings killed 3 and injured 12 in New Orleans this past weekend.

When Bienville first arrived there he discovered that the native Indians would not even live there.
