Which isn't going to happen there without residents making some noise.

Which is why people are making noise.

Cause this board is filled with miserable people who live in Bumfrick, LA and bashing other cities makes them feel better about themselves.

It's should be a place to have a good time and embrace its cultural history. Not some scuzzy out house where you get robbed, killed and raped (in that order) like it's some kind of pirates cove.

I'm not opposed to people visiting New Orleans. I'm just opposed to anyone I know and love visiting New Orleans. And really, you should be too.

I bet most of the people bashing NOLA haven't been there in 15+ years.

I certainly don’t live in Bumfrick, LA and am not miserable. I have plenty valid reasons to not frequent the city of New Orleans.

The only reasons for me to go there is entertainment, food, and/or drinking. Not only is it a massive pain in the arse to get to those areas, park, walk, etc but it’s not safe for a family to do so. And since I have a young family, it won’t be happening.

But that’s not just Nola. I wouldn’t go strolling my family through downtown Austin, Houston, Shreveport, Atlanta, Memphis, etc either.

Also, not true for me. And overall a stupid comment.

A person visiting from Washington or let's say somewhere from Europe isn't going to know this. They're going to the French Quarter and specifically Bourbon St. That's the main attraction for someone that's never been here

And everyone on here is in agreement that it's been let go to absolute shite.

This is where the convo splits. One side says to avoid that area and go to the other places to have fun. The other says hey fix that area now.

What New Orleans needs is another Adolph Archie.

(Look him up... solid name, punk-arse dude.)

That’s a shame. Saints games are fun. Astros games are fun. I enjoyed them ever since I was a kid.

Isn't that why people visit any city?

I’m 45 years old. I have been going to New Orleans since I was young and have some more than my share of absolutely ridiculously stupid stuff. My friend that is equal in age and young stupidity came to visit me in Houston this weekend and we went downtown Saturday, went to Astros game, went to the Galleria, etc. A common thing we talked about was the difference between New Orleans and Houston. It’s just feel safer. I haven’t once worried about my safety in Houston and I always felt like I had to keep my head on a swivel in NOLA. We weren’t out past 11 this weekend and didn’t do any of the dumb shite we used to do so of course that played a role, but to me (and him), Houston is a very different place than New Orleans.

New Orleans is still a safe place for a weekend family trip to go out to dinner, check out the park, visit the zoo and/or aquarium, etc.

Sure if you don’t get shot on the interstate or carjacked when you get off. And then if you do make it to the zoo, hopefully your windows won’t be smashed out when you get back to your car. Oh and then if any of that happens, good luck getting a cop to help you in any reasonable amount of time.

I used to always think ‘date night’ in Nee Orleans had such a unique feel to it. Nice restaurant, drinks at The Columns, St Charles or Magazine Street sunday brunch somewhere, I loved it. I wouldn’t do that now with everything I read about how bad it’s become.

The last time I did that I woke up the next morning to a bunch of text of people asking ‘if we were ok”. We were fine but apparently 7 people got shot on Bourbon the Saturday night. Luckily, we were in the hotel sleeping by that point but I’ve never felt the urge to go back to NOLA after that. Call me a vagina, but it’s how I feel.

NOLA is the one money maker LA has in terms of tourism, and the tourism industry has to be the main thing keeping New Orleans afloat!

So why is the mayor waging an all out war on tourism?

When NOLA was really wealthy it wasn't based on tourism but oil/gas and shipping. Wealthy and business expense diners built that restaurant industry. Wealthy donors paid for those museums. Wealthy planters built entertainment further paid for by business spenders.

Depends where you want to visit in NOLA. I don't mind going down there for dinner with friends be they from NOLA or out of state, then spending the night. My recollection is that Bourbon St. has always been overpromised and under delivered at higher than normal prices.
