re: Why are residents of Louisiana on this board so opposed to people visiting New Orleans?

You are reaching. BR violence is pretty much in the hood. It’s not like people are getting shot or robbed tailgating.

Any place you have to step over homeless to get to where you are going is not a good place.

I hope New Orleans crashes and burns. Its run by idiots.

love the "NOLA tourism and industry keeps the State afloat" line. I would postulate that Louisiana would prosper without all of the bad political influence that the NOLA power groups exert over state politics.
They are going to get a bigger chunk of covid relief than the rest of state too.
Yet, the rest if the state was what was holding us up while Nola was locked down.

To be fair, it was almost a week ago.

Yeah br is kind of segregated between the black community, white community and LSU community with just a little bit of bleed over.
Nola not so much. Where you can be leaving a bar on one block, while people are getting shot the next block over.

This was a really unusual shooting for br, even says so in your article. Also says the cops went on a man hunt, used helicopters and all.
I'm not sure how much effort nopd would be putting into this. They stole a car, so the cops couldn't even chase them here.

I can take New Orleans but only in small doses. Get fed up being harrassed and hustled by hobos and junkies and the stench of piss is equally annoying. You also have to be very careful with your sense of direction. It's very easy for someone who doesn't know the place to say keep walking down Bourbon St and unwittingly ending up in a very dangerous area.
I enjoy going to the Dome for Saints games, occasionally hitting a few bars I like - American Sports Saloon, Mannings and Ole Saint (yes I like sports bars). I do like the Riverwalk outlet too, so I do get down still maybe a dozen times per year. One of the problems of New Orleans though beyond the crime and those structural problems is its too geared towards tourists. Hopefully projects like the River District change that towards people living here 365 and not visiting for a weekend bachelor/ette party. Needs more actual amenities and not tourist tack.
I think you also need to somewhat differentiate between neighborhoods and the FQ/CBD. I would say New Orleans bad neighborhoods match up to anywhere in the country but the aforementioned areas are OK. I've had friends from up North, UK, Australia visit and they love it here. Again though we don't venture beyond the Quarter, the Dome or the Garden District. Well we did the airboat adventures once....
If you want to see a rough, desolate, dangerous Downtown then St. Louis is miles ahead of New Orleans and that's as someone who really likes STL. Unless you go around the Arch or a Blues or Cardinals game is on then that place is DEAD.
Of course the facts are though, Democrat run cities plus high black populations equal problems.

New Orleans is a beautiful and mostly safe city to visit if you COMPLETELY AVOID Downtown and the French Quarter. That’s where all the garbage is. And the poor neighborhoods, but you wouldn’t be going there unless you were buying drugs.
Lots of nice views, places to eat, etc. on the Lakefront, Uptown, Mid-City, City Park, etc.
But everyone goes to the Quarter and Downtown and says how horrible New Orleans is. It’s like going to the bathroom at a football stadium and saying the whole stadium smells like piss and shite.

Not opposed in the slightest
Just extremely irritated that it's "the face" of Louisiana and has literally idiots running it into the ground.

As you can see from the numerous posts, most of the complaints are political.
The majority of the posters are highly unlikely to be the type of person to be lingering around Bourbon Street at 3AM.
New Orleans is still a safe place for a weekend family trip to go out to dinner, check out the park, visit the zoo and/or aquarium, etc.
It’s also largely safe to do a myriad of other things.
None of this is to say that reform isn’t needed or necessary, but they are intentionally misrepresenting risk.

Yeah I was posting in the other thread about how the panhandlers are OUT OF CONTROL there now
I mean Bourbon was much scarier than I have ever seen it but I know it's very unlikely anything comes of that (most of the guys, I presume, are just dealing drugs and not looking to commit a violent crime). But I can't deal with being accosted every 10th step or having to step over heroin addicts passed out in the streets every 15th step.

Yeah but that requires them to think a little and out in some effort to learn about some new places. That would be like convincing them that there are better places to eat than Oceana, Deanies, and Mullates. LOL
You can see from the responses about my City Park question that people didn’t even know that there is a ton to do out there

and I don't think that's what OP is talking about
as was discussed in the other thread. the tourist destination is the FQ and locals know the FQ is terrible
you don't tell locals not to visit Nola. you tell tourists

NOLA is the one money maker LA has in terms of tourism, and the tourism industry has to be the main thing keeping New Orleans afloat! The fewer people that come, the poorer the city gets. The poorer the city gets, the further it falls from grace. Yeah, areas of the city are bad and dan
Not sure if you're aware the mayor of the city has a war going on against tourism and the industries it supports.
Let NOLA rot. It's a shithole city filled with shitty individuals.
