FWIW, ethanol and fructose are processed the same in the liver
What do you mean processed the same? Fructose is made into F1P by fructokinase, and then is made into 2 molecules of glyceraldehyde-3-P, which can enter glycolysis. Because there is no rate-limiting step, there is an excess of triose metabolites, and fructose potentiates pyruvate kinase, leading to G3P also being being metabolized into pyruvate directly, which can go into multiple pathways. Ethanol is oxidized to acetaldehyde by alcohol dehydrogenase and then that is made into acetate by acetaldehyde dehydrogenase.
Pyruvate can become acetyl-CoA, which can lead to FA synthesis.

Technology has made people incredibly lazy. Instead of going to the library, shmucks can just sit on the couch and Google shite. And many kids don’t play outside anymore.. just side inside and game
Hell, people don't even have to get off the couch to answer their phone or adjust their thermostat. Suri this, Alexis that.

30 years ago, I ate fast food. Weighed 155 lbs.
Today, I eat fast food and weigh 225.
Testosterone is your friend until you get past 28-32 years old.

Lack of good old fashioned fat shaming. Society is trying to tell us this is sexy now.

Because they stuff their fat asses with fries and Big Macs then go sit those fat asses down and play video games all day.

It’s certainty multifactorial, but the one thing that people fail to mention is the use of food as a coping mechanism. With today’s ever increasing stress, coping mechanisms like food, drugs, alcohol, porn and workaholism are prevalent. People don’t know how to be content. It may have started when women were told that they need to work. Stressed parents with their own coping mechanisms neglecting children, who cope with their mechanisms.

Less cigarette smoking.
Less bullying.

You don’t get fat overnight. A couple pounds a year for 30 years with all the food options that we’ve had available. I’m surprised we haven’t gotten fatter than that over that last 30 years.

this isn't "my area" but im just going to assume its a combination of the following:
1) people are less active
2) larger portions
3) more sugar in everything
4) more starchy foods and not enough veggies (insulin resistance, i believe its called)
5) people eat out ALOT more.

The government food pyramid. Eat Carbs....

Americans don’t eat like the suggested food pyramid, Japanese do though.

I could possibly buy this with food as a replacement for smoking, but the biochemistry supports one conclusion even absent a vague etiology like stress. With the nutritional profiles, we would be fat even if we were in a utopia.

Seems low for Louisiana in 1990. Didn't they adjust down the weight considered to be obese?
