re: Why are ‘less intelligent’ people more likely to have a loud car/truck?

This week a truck comes rolling through the neighborhood with the loudest muffler I have ever heard. If twenty Harley's were behind it you would never know it. Four door with looked like 4 tires in the bed. Some on rims, some not. I go inside and ask my wife, (no picks, and a stupid question)did you hear that truck? She said I thought it was the neighbors Harley. I said no it was a truck I have never seen and obviously heard before. Well it makes the turn onto the highway a block away and hits the gas, just a screaming loud, obnoxious, blast of a exhaust. Well it rolls about a hundred yards up the highway and then silence. I look over my privacy fence to see why he slowed down, maybe he lived close by. Well when he hit the gas all of the tires in the bed came loose and are rolling down the highway behind him. There was three other "Baws" in the truck with the "Baw" driver and they get out chasing the tires down the highway. Wish I could of got a video of it, was funny as shite.

Honestly jacked up huge trucks are far more annoying than those

I like the folks that drive the cars that sound like they’re perpetually shitting themselves. It’s usually Walker or Denham trash in an old 4 cylinder with all sorts of mods and tuning. Most of them have a “gas, arse, or grass” sticker on the passenger side window. It’s really cool.

Same. These people who think they know better than the manufacturer what the spring rate / ride height/ headlamp bulb / whatever should be are full of it.

If you annoy others with it, yes.
Most people love it. But the driver should be courteous and only vroom vroom when appropriate.

Maybe. Did you add after market accessories to intentionally make it louder?

This ties directly in to unnecessarily aggressive driving no matter where they are.
It’s quite a phenomenon.

I was thinking about buying this car:
But I don’t want to hurt anyone’s feeling because of loud noises.

It’s normal in all humans to desire status. People of limited means or low societal status for other reasons seek validation where they can get it.
It might be loud pipes, it might be walking slowly down the middle of the aisle in WalMart so they can feel power over the people they are frustrating, it might be beating up middle class kids at school. All are ways of seeking status and fighting back against the power they innately feel helpless against.
The low intelligence link is more correlation than causation.

There was a time way back when that I thought it was cool. Somewhere in my 30’s it started to annoy me. By my 40’s it started interrupting my thoughts while I was talking. I’m in my 50’s now and it just irritates the hell out of me.
When I was in my teens, I had a quite loud exhaust so I don’t want to be hypocritical, but as we age and get older, loud racket in general is quite a nuisance. Well I’ve got to go yell at kids on my lawn now. Have a nice day.

I don't think I have seen one of those since about 1982. Are they still out there or making a comeback ?

What if you own a vintage muscle car with pretty loud exhaust? Does that make you dumb?
Personally I don't have any problem with exhaust that fits the vehicle. It's the idiots that insist on bouncing the rev limiter as often as they can.
The even lesser intelligent exhaust is the 4 banger or v6 that sounds like they should be going 100mph while they're going 30.

Saw one of those in downtown Durango, Co. a few years ago. When we come walking back by it, the owner gets in a cranks it up. I must admit, pretty badass, and pretty loud too, but ok, it wasn't in my neighborhood.

No…they don’t.
Maybe your likeminded friends and folks at car shows like it, but most people just want things to be at acceptable volume.

I do laugh at sports cars and especially Honda civics with spoilers.

Wrong. High testosterone is linked to being smart. Look at Joe rogan and Neil degrasse Tyson they’re jacked. Everybody knows that the louder your truck the more testosterone you have. That’s why soys and women vote democrat
This but un-ironically.
