Dollar General
Loves truckstop
Etc...

They are making billions of dollars a year, shouldn't they be the ones to donate?

You could always just say no. That's what I do and feel no regret.

As has been said many times here, if you round up, you’re making a donation in that company’s name.

because on their balance sheet they pool all these donations and then donate them to the charity. This allows the company to have a tax deduction using your money

I’ve noticed quite a few places recently that will take a 5* Google review over payment.

They are the "charity"
Don't give unless you see your money entering the hand of the person you wish to help.

You need to report those frickers for holding a gun to your head and forcing you to round up.

People keep saying this but only show that they just parrot wives tales they hear and don’t really understand business.

Yes they get a tax deduction, but your contribution isn’t off the books. They still have to show where that money came from.

So tax wise it’s neutral. They get a deduction yes, but on income they otherwise wouldn’t have even had. The business is just a pass through entity. You give them 5 bucks, they donate 5 bucks, they don’t pay taxes on 5 bucks.

What’s in it for them is getting the customer base to subsidize charitable things, giving the company good PR talking points and in sketchier contexts, donations to pet projects of potential benefactors who can later give kickbacks.

But in terms of just their tax returns, it’s just a moot point.

Do not pay for a company's tax write-off. If you want to donate to charity, do it on your own.

ETA: oh, honey. You don't think the company benefits from this at all?

It honestly took longer for this dumbass comment to make it into this thread than I thought.

You did it though.
