Who wears the "engagement" ring in a gay relationship?

One of my friends just proposed to his boyfriend. He got on the knee but the boyfriend stood up and put his hand over his mouth, utterly shocked.
Got me thinking about who wears the ring until the wedding? Do they both or what? Just the one who's been catching this whole time? What if the catcher wants to pitch a bit, do they change the ring?
Surely got some tigers here that could help me out on this?

I would imagine that nobody does.
Because someone is gay doesn't mean they aren't a man, and men don't typically wear engagement rings. Or maybe both wear a wedding band? Or maybe one of them wear a big arse ring just to piss off people.
Either way, who cares?
