You are better off in St. Tammany than in Orleans or some other parishes, as I understand judges there are more amenable to shared custody arrangements which may reduce or eliminate your child support obligation (depending on parties' income of course). Seek to have custody of the kids 50/50, don't be an every-other-weekender.

I’ve actually heard it’s pretty bad in St. Tammany which has me worried.

This is the route I took. She was ruthless. She even scared the hell out of me. Cost me a lot up front but saved me a whole lot more on the back end.
My ex went the cheap route, and it cost her.
One thing I learned - the law does not say that the split must be "equal". It says that the split must be "equitable". Makes a huge difference, at least in Oklahoma.

Interview them all so your wife won't be able to hire any locals. Either that, or look at ALL of the judges your case could possibly be sent to and their campaign contributions from attorneys. Pick the top three and interview those. They're most likely going to be the same across the board.

Ask Mike Brandner.

THIS RIGHT HERE.
Accept that the divorce industry is big business. The lawyers love, love, love when their client digs in and refuses on something. That's when the real billable hours start. My buddy went to the mat over a fricking $5,000 rug and he and his ex spent about $10,000 fighting over it. Both of them were dumb asses. If there is anyway at all that you can work out an agreement on the front end, do it. You may give up more initially but you will save in the long term.

From personal experience, Stephen Rue. He's not cheap though

I used Marie Hillman and she was good. I didn't get the sense that she was running up my bill.

I don't have any names for you, but it has been my experience that women are better divorce attorneys than men. If I were hiring a divorce attorney, it would be a woman.

In Louisiana, it's about who has the best connections with the judges

I don’t doubt this.

Ive said it before and ill scream it to death...
BEFORE you file anything, teach yourself (easily found online) how to manipulate the money situation in your favor. Some slap dick wanna bes will comment you can't. Simply not true.
Let's just say you pay your buddy 20k to go shoot hogs on his property. Or 15k for letting you get a ride on his jet to Vegas, etc etc. He can kick it back to you at a later date
Money spent while married is absolutely community funds.
The day she's served, have small cash amounts left in accounts....can't cut all access off.
Only negative if judge decides spending not allowed, is you have to pay a portion back....but you'll lose it anyway.
Do everything you can do!
fricking whores

You need to think about lessons learned. What was your red flags during the dating process you ignored? What conversations weren’t had prior to marriage? Why did you marry when you knew deep down it wasn’t right?
Before you jump into another relationship, you need to answer these question and go through the mitigation process when dating again. Do some reflection. Both parties are always at fault in a divorce.

Matt Champagne or Ernie Barrow.
Both are great guys and serious lawyers.

Lindsey Olsen in Covington. She is tenacious and very well respected in the St. Tammany divorce/family law community. She is also a Board Certified Family Law Specialist which is very important to me.

Settle as fast as you can, and always do what is in your kids’ best interest.
Did I mention to settle as fast as you can?
I won, got sole custody, and it cost me more money than you can imagine.
