For me...my status car is a 2000 Maxima, 325000 miles and still a very good ride. Do much of the routine work needed myself, more serious stuff to the shop. Great car, told my spouse when I assume room temperature, she can rent a back hoe and bury me in the vehicle in the back yard.

Dodges had shitty transmissions and shitty interiors.

2012 F250 162k miles. Needs some maintenance ie mainly cab bushings atm but can’t make myself part with the cash for a new one as this one still chugging along just fine. Prior to this truck I never kept one past 5 yrs

Yep, Honda Accord below:
- 06 Honda Accord V6 all options, currently 106K miles
- Bought it 1.5 years ago wholesale for 6K, had 65K miles
- former CarMax car
- Wifey drives to the hospital 3 times a week, grocery store, etc.
- She drove it all over NYC when she was up there for 3 months last year
- - I WFH so I have to remember to crank my F350 and Jeep up some weeks, certainly aren't putting miles on them

2003 sr5 taco w/ 138k, indestructible - when I finally let it go, it will probably end up in the middle east with a .50 cal mounted in the bed

You are lucky you didn't have the block freeze and get destroyed.
On your original question, I drive a 2014 F-150 with ~160k miles paid cash for it and have spent very little on it since I have owned it outside of oil changes, etc.
Guys with $1,000+ payments on trucks are strange to me. I use my truck hard and she is a bit dinged up but runs like a top.

1995 GMC K2500. It was my father's old farm truck, then my grandfather's ranch truck. After my grandfather passed away, I took possession of it and have been driving it.
It's got 275K on it and it looks like a truck that's lived the farm life. Dents, scratches and peeling clear coat.
But it fires up every time I turn the key, idles smoothly and has working 4 wheel drive and gets me to point a and b. Also because it looks like a beat up truck, people are less likely to run out in front of me because it screams "IDGAF if I hit you"

2003 Jetta 312,000 miles and counting
Why spend $20,000+ on a new car when I'll just beat the shite out of it anyway?

I had a '97 xlt with the 5.0. Never any problems until it reached 247k, then it fell apart, from front to back, except the motor and tranny.

2009 Mazda 3. 227K. It’s my wife’s old car. We kept it for me to commute back and forth to work in (it was worth next to nothing on trade value anyway).

2003 manual transmission Nissan Xterra with just over 180,000 miles on it. Love it.

Looks like my 2007 Accord.
I paid $13K cash about 8 years ago at 35,000 miles. Im up to 198,000. Interior has gone to shite, but everything else runs great.
My prior vehicle was a dodge intrepid (recommended model type to me from police officer whose city used them). Paid $10k cash (saved $4k versus a comparable honda). Within 2 years, the kelly blue book was $2k and it started being riddled with problems. Im fortunate that the worst financial decision of my life was buying a dodge. It was bad. But if thats my worst decision, i am blessed.

2007 ram 2500 diesel, has 120K on it, think I can still sell it for over $20K right now, pretty crazy. I work from home now so she gets about 10 miles a week on her, to and from the gym, thats it.

I wouldn't call it a beater, BUT, I'm driving a 2008 Lexus SC with 75K miles. All I've done is replace the oil every 6 months, windshield wipers, and the tires at 45K. It still runs and looks like new (garage kept at all times). It looks just like this --
As long as it stays looking good and running good (knock on wood), I have no plans on getting a new car any time soon.

I used to work with guys who had $1000 truck notes (maxed out fully loaded trucks) who constantly asked how I could afford to go on vacation so often. Ummmmm you can do a lot of long weekends with $12 k extra a year.
My old arse paid for camry spent the same amount of time in the parking lot at work and under the carport at home as their trucks did.

2001 Toyota Tacoma with 151k miles. AC is the only thing that went out on it after damn near 20 years.

I drive a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan. I installed a 17 inch iPad for my Led screen. It’s pimp, like it’s a brand new Honda van.
