I see guys at work buying new trucks every couple years, have never not had a car note, and they laugh at me for driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi. It has 137K miles, less than $1500 in repairs (not including routine maintenance).
The Ole Gray Mare just won’t die. I didn’t even buy her new, I got her in 2008 for $15K.
Last week during the freeze, I didn’t have anti-freeze in her. She froze solid. I cranked her up, drove about a mile. All kinds of lights come on (check engine, throttle body). I realize what’s going on, turn around, drive home, pop the radiator cap. It’s a solid block of ice. I put a heater under the hood and buy a new radiator for $150, change it out real quick, no problems.
My biggest maintenance cost in 13 years were new U-joints for $300 (and that’s actually routine maintenance).
I don’t get driving a new truck to a plant, with all the cooling tower fall out, etc.
I will drive it until she’s dead. This is my work truck, and has been more faithful than some of these $50K+ trucks other guys are buying.

My company provides me with a vehicle. I also have a 2015 Chevy Cruze with 50k miles and a 2002 Dodge Ram with 135k miles. I would really like a new truck, but I shite my pants when I saw what they cost these days.

It’s funny, people say Dodge’s are pieces of shite, but three of the four posts in this thread are older Dodges.

I work from home permanently so I drive our old 2011 Honda Accord permanently. No major issues and I barely drive anywhere except for bringing the kids to school and the occasional trip to Lowe’s or Home Depot. I am indeed the guy loading lumber into the trunk and through the laid-down back seat of a Honda at Lowe’s. No shame, no note!

Damn straight.

At work, there’s kind of an unwritten honor of driving the oldest truck in the unit. When a old guy retired a few years ago, he had a 1960 pickup. When he retired, it made my truck the oldest. Another guy drives a 2006, and he is always asking me when the Ole Gray Mare is gonna die, so he will have the honor.

I have a 2006 CR-V that I use for most daily use...taking kids to school and whatnot.

Keeps the miles low on my newer truck.

08 Silverado with close to 200,000 miles, maybe closer to 190,000. Biggest cost outside of tires has been about $200 worth of brake work

Brakes and tires don’t count, those are items that wear out. That’s routine maintenance.
In 13 years, I’ve only had the u-joints changed, new radiator, fuel pump, and crank shaft/throttle body/crank shaft sensors changed. I did most myself, and I’m not an auto mechanic by no means.

I had a 2008 Sierra that I intended to pass on to my son. Ended up trading it in on a 2020 Sierra last January. Still kicking myself in the arse.
