Yes, white trash galore. Almost as bad as driving through Winston or Walker Co's

You could almost say that most of non coastal Florida is that way.

Northern Virginia might as well be New Jersey. Southern Virginia might as well be Mississippi. It's a weird state like that.

From what I am told, that is maybe only a 15-20 year development. Thanks, FedGov.

Texas, no I consider it more Western.

Texas is kind of its own thing. West Texas is western, East Texas is southern, North Texas & panhandle are plains. But no single culture encompasses all of Texas. Plus there are elements of Texas culture that are unique to it. It stands alone in my opinion.

Kentucky and Tennessee no I consider that more mountain like, Appalachia if you will. Virginia and Maryland negative as well. Florida, while geographically south doesn't fit the culture of a "southern" state. Missouri and Arkansas no as well.

I was right there with you until Arkansas. That's as southern as it gets.

If we're talking the whole state, then you must exclude Texas and Florida.

East Texas and north Florida are certainly more southern than anything though.

According to the us census bureau

The South Atlantic States: Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and West Virginia.

The East South Central States: Alabama, Kentucky, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The West South Central States: Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

I’m sure you’ll find nearly infinite variations here on the OT.

No, that means they were former (or attempted former) Confederate States. While there is a lot of overlap, cultural conditions change.

Even the liberal institution in Chapel Hill has it's confederate monument still standing. Let alone the culture of most of the state.

I agree about Texas. When I first moved here, I got into a debate with a guy where I said Texas was not considered one of the Southern states. He went on to tell me about confederate historical sites in Texas. Didn't matter to me than and still doesn't 16 years after that conversation. I still say Texas is not a Southern State.

Based on some of the laws here, that might be true. Goddamned Puritans won't let me have happy hour.
